(WEAU) – We are getting a closer look at renderings of a new mental health facility in Chippewa Falls.

The portion of land Rogers Behavioral Health proposed to become a new mental health facility in Chippewa Falls is along Highway 178 and Beach Drive.

“If you look at the renderings, it’s just a beautiful sight,” Jason Hiess, the Mayor of Chippewa Falls, said.

With 14 inpatient rooms and 24 residential rooms, the facility looks to fill the gap in mental health services in the region.

“We’ve lost mental health beds due to those closures, including our youth inpatient beds,” (R) State Senator Jesse James of Thorp said. “Rogers will be bringing that back. They have a proven framework that will provide evidence-based care to the community that desperately needs it.”

“Anybody that you talk to about it in the health industry or just people on the street are just really excited to have them and partner in our city,” Hiess said. “They provide a service that went away when our hospitals closed, and they’re filling that gap and something that’s needed, severely needed.”

On Monday night, the Chippewa Falls Plan Commission approved a conditional use permit for space to be used for the facility. In a statement, Rogers Behavioral Health said in part, “Over the past year, we have been assessing the mental health care gap in the Chippewa Valley and are committed to ensuring individuals and families have timely access to the appropriate care and support.”

“This is a major investment in our state’s mental health infrastructure in the area that we need it most,” State Sen. James said.

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Senate passed a bill that provided $10 million to the facility, providing another step in securing resources for those who need them.

“We’re happy that we have reached a bipartisan consensus on this legislation, and I will continue fighting for our youth back at home and in everything that I do,” James said.

State Sen. James said the hope is to open Rogers Behavioral Health’s Chippewa Falls facility in early 2027. Rogers Behavioral Health is holding an open house where community members can meet staff and learn about the services it will provide. That open house is at the Chippewa Valley Technical College’s Lobby in Chippewa Falls from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Copyright 2025 WEAU.
