Demonstrators are preparing to make their voices heard this weekend. Thousands of people across the nation are planning to show out for the No Kings protest.<\/p>\n
Demonstrators say they are standing up to what they call President Trump\u2019s authoritarian actions.<\/p>\n
The protest is organized by the 5051 movement. The No King\u2019s protest on Oct. 18 at Travis Park is expected to break records according to San Antonio\u2019s 5051 head Alex Svehla.<\/p>\n
The movement preaches that America has no kings. While President Trump has jokingly stated he may run for a third term, Svehla says a third term is no joking matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t consider it a joke at all because no other President has ever made any type of comment like this before.\u201d<\/p>\n
The protest organizer says they are protesting to protect America\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnything that pushes against the constitution, like his attacks on the media, having the White House and other government offices restrict media access,\u201d Svehla said.<\/p>\n
The No King\u2019s protest will be anchored at Travis Park Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just about being angry,\u201d Svehla said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have about 20 organizations out tabling and engaging with the crowd. There are a lot of different organizations to meet.\u201d<\/p>\n
SAPD will be in attendance to ensure crowd safety.<\/p>\n
The San Antonio Police Department is aware of a planned protest scheduled for October 18th. We remain committed to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals and groups to conduct peaceful and lawful demonstrations.
