Danny Rohl wants to hand Steven Davis<\/a> a key role if he lands the Rangers job.<\/p>\n The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has already been interviewed and has impressed Ibrox chiefs.<\/a><\/p>\n Rohl is very much on the shortlist to become Russell Martin\u2019s successor<\/a>, along with Kevin Muscat, who is currently at Chinese title chasers Shanghai Port.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old has a backroom team in mind and has also told Ibrox chiefs that he also wants to add a former Rangers presence to his team.<\/p>\n Record Sport <\/strong>can reveal the man he has identified is former Ibrox captain Davis.<\/p>\n He will make his move if Rangers decide that Rohl is the man they want to take them forward.<\/p>\n Davis currently has a key coaching role under Michael O\u2019Neill with the Northern Ireland national team.<\/p>\n He had two spells with Rangers<\/a> and is highly-regarded amongst the Rangers support and also held the caretaker manager\u2019s job after Michael Beale<\/a> was sacked.<\/p>\n When Rohl went into Wednesday, he brought in Chris Powell as his assistant, as he knew the English Championship.<\/p>\n Former Rangers player Andy Halliday had also suggested another Rangers captain Lee Wallace for a backroom role under Rohl.<\/p>\n That has been put to Rohl by his former Sheffield Wednesday player Josh Windass.<\/p>\n Rohl has a wealth of coaching experience at Red Bull Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich and with the German national team.<\/p>\n The German is classed as a top class coach and did an extremely good job at Sheffield Wednesday, under the backdrop of different challenges behind the scenes.<\/p>\n He was on Rangers\u2019 radar in the summer but the \u00a32.5 million compensation package due to Wednesday put them off.<\/p>\n Rohl left the Owls earlier this season and so this time there is no compensation.<\/p>\n Follow Record Sport<\/strong> on Twitter<\/a>, Facebook<\/a> and Instagram<\/a> for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.<\/p>\n You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers<\/a> page, and sign up to our newsletters<\/a> to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.<\/p>\n We’re also on WhatsApp where we bring all the latest breaking news and transfer gossip directly to you phone.
