The mother of an Afghanistan veteran who was brutally murdered in the Big Apple nearly a decade ago endorsed Curtis Sliwa for mayor on Wednesday \u2014 while blasting ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo for passing the state\u2019s \u201csoft-on-crime\u201d bail reforms.<\/p>\n

Madeline Brame<\/a> \u2014 mom of 35-year-old US Army Sgt. Hason Correa \u2014 stood with the GOP candidate for mayor in Lower Manhattan, calling out his opponents, Cuomo, who is running as an independent, and front-runner Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would anyone in their right mind want to vote for Andrew Cuomo again?\u201d Brame asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cMamdani is just a continuation of the failed progressive policies that have run New York City into the ground,\u201d she railed. <\/p>\n

Brame slammed a Cuomo-era bail reform policy that led to her son\u2019s assailants getting lesser charges. Brigitte Stelzer<\/p>\n

Correa, a married father of three, was tragically stabbed to death on Oct. 18, 2018, during a scuffle by a group of four people outside a Harlem apartment building.<\/p>\n

Two of the four assailants\u2019 <\/a>most serious charges were downgraded and dropped by the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office in 2022 \u2014 and their bails were then slashed thanks to the law signed by then-Gov. Cuomo in 2019, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want no cash bail to continue? You vote for Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo,\u201d Sliwa said, Paul Martinka<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was the one who signed off and championed the policy,\u201d Brame said of Cuomo. <\/p>\n

\u201cBill de Blasio was the mayor at the time. These people ignored the cries of victims,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Sliwa, the founder of the crime prevention vigilante group the Guardian Angels, echoed Brame\u2019s concerns about his mayoral foes.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want no cash bail to continue? You vote for Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo,\u201d Sliwa said, noting he was ready to tackle the issue during the first general election mayoral debate on WNBC Thursday night. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re two peas in a pod,\u201d Sliwa said of his opponents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m representing the victims, the continued victims of crime in New York City,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Since launching his comeback bid for mayor, Cuomo has defended <\/a>the controversial reforms, telling The Post in March that the laws, which have since been partially rolled back, \u201crighted a terrible wrong\u201d of disparities in the prison system.<\/p>\n

Cuomo has promised to hire 5,000 additional NYPD cops as the cornerstone of his public safety plan.<\/p>\n

Mamdani has vowed to retain the number of cops in the force and develop a new, civilian Department of Community Safety to respond to mental health disturbances and other non-violent calls.<\/p>\n
