This would effectively give Lecornu the power to force through the government\u2019s agenda regardless.<\/p>\n<p>The Socialist\u2019s parliamentary leader, Boris Vallaud, conceded that the party was taking a \u201crisky bet\u201d by trusting the prime minister to keep his word on freezing the pension reform.<\/p>\n<p>Other opposition parties quickly questioned how serious the government was about the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of this feels like a mix of improvisation \u2014 and maybe a bit of a swindle,\u201d said the head of the French National Assembly\u2019s finance committee, Eric Coquerel, a prominent lawmaker for the hard-left France Unbowed group.<\/p>\n<p>The reform involves raising the minimum retirement age by three months each year until 2030.
