{"id":307384,"date":"2025-10-16T06:36:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T06:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/307384\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T06:36:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T06:36:27","slug":"first-case-of-chikungunya-virus-confirmed-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/307384\/","title":{"rendered":"First case of Chikungunya virus confirmed in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALBANY, N.Y. \u2014 New York State health officials have confirmed the first locally acquired case of the Chikungunya virus. <\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.ny.gov\/press\/releases\/2025\/2025-10-14_chikungunya.htm\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.health.ny.gov\/press\/releases\/2025\/2025-10-14_chikungunya.htm\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> mosquito-borne illness <\/a>was detected in a person on Long Island, who began experiencing symptoms in August following a trip outside the region. <\/p>\n<p>Symptoms include fever and joint pain, headache, muscle pain, joint swelling or rash. The illness is rarely fatal and most patients recover within a week.<\/p>\n<p>The mosquito-borne disease is typically found in tropical regions.
