{"id":307408,"date":"2025-10-16T06:49:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T06:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/307408\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T06:49:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T06:49:14","slug":"cbs-sports-shakes-up-top-25-qb-rankings-after-week-7-of-college-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/307408\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS Sports shakes up Top 25 QB rankings after Week 7 of College Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through seven weeks of the college football season, stud quarterbacks are beginning to stand tall above the rest of the crop.<\/p>\n<p>This includes\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0quarterback\u00a0<strong>Ty Simpson<\/strong>, who appears to have climbed to the top of Heisman conversations following his clutch performance against ranked opponents in three straight weeks. <strong>Missouri<\/strong>\u2018s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/beau-pribula-9533\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beau Pribula<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Illinois<\/strong>\u2018 <strong>Luke Altmyer<\/strong> however fell mightily this week following losses to <strong>Alabama<\/strong> and <strong>Ohio State<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Heading into week eight of the college football season,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/college-football\/news\/college-football-qb-power-rankings-uscs-jayden-maiava-surges-arch-manning-returns-to-top-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS Sports\u00a0has ranked<\/a>\u00a0the top-25 quarterbacks in the sport. Those rankings are below.<\/p>\n<p>Things started off rough for\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0quarterback Ty Simpson this season, but he has been the best quarterback in the SEC since the Tide\u2019s season-opening loss to\u00a0<strong>Florida State<\/strong>. Since that loss,\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0has won five consecutive games (including three straight against ranked opponents). Through six games this season, Simpson has thrown for 1,678 yards, 16 touchdowns and just one interception. In their three games against ranked opponents, Simpson boasts seven touchdowns to just one interception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s things he can keep getting better at, just staying within himself,\u201d head coach Kalen DeBoer said about Simpson. \u201cThat\u2019s really the key with him, just stay within himself and not try to do too much. When he does that, he stacks plays, he stacks first downs. Sooner or later, we\u2019re in the end zone. This could not have been farther from the truth however, as the Hoosiers knocked off No. 3\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/oregon-ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon<\/a><\/strong>\u00a030-20 in Eugene on Saturday and have catapulted to No. 3 in the AP Poll Rankings for the first time in program history.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/golden-bear-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cal<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0transfer quarterback\u00a0<strong>Fernando Mendoza<\/strong>\u00a0has been instrumental in this 6-0 start, as he\u2019s passed for 1,423 yards, 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t have done it without our fantastic offense,\u201d Mendoza\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sports_Spectrum\/status\/1977154887525056589\">said following the win over\u00a0Oregon<\/a>. \u201cThey never said it was gonna be easy. We came in here, we handled adversity fantastically and we rose to the moment. When the offense is on the field and we need a game-winning drive, we did it. When the defense needed a stop, we did it.\u201d He\u2019s currently projected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in the 2026 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong>\u2018s sixth year quarterback <strong>Haynes King<\/strong> is leading the Yellow Jackets to their best season in years. Tech is 6-0 with wins over <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/cu-sports-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado<\/a><\/strong>, No. 12 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/tiger-illustrated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clemson<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/deacons-illustrated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wake Forest<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/virginia-tech-hokies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia Tech<\/a><\/strong> and looks to be on its way to its first 10-win season since 2014. Through six games, King has passed for 971 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception. He\u2019s also rushed for 440 yards (sixth most among quarterbacks) and nine touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>The Jackets aren\u2019t scheduled to face a team ranked in the Top-25 until their season finale against No. 9 <strong>Georgia<\/strong>, meaning King\u2019s <strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong> program could be 11-0 heading into that matchup. \u201cHe\u2019s run for over 100 yards per game against Power Four opponents this season,\u201d FOX Sports\u2018 <strong>Joel Klatt<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/news\/joel-klatt-reveals-his-midseason-top-5-players-for-2025-heisman-trophy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s only got four passing touchdowns but nine on the ground. And any big game I just immediately think to myself, <strong>Haynes King<\/strong> is going to play well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>USC<\/strong>\u00a0junior quarterback\u00a0<strong>Jayden Maiava<\/strong>\u00a0has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in all of college football this season for a Trojan team that has opened the year with a 5-1 record. Maiava has excelled under quarterback-guru\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/lincoln-riley-134569\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincoln Riley<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in his first season as a starting quarterback. Through six games, the Palolo, HI native boasts 1,852 passing yards (third most in NCAA), 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>He was strong in the Trojans\u2019 dominant 31-13 win over No. 15\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/michigan-wolverines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michigan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on Saturday, passing for 265 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/makai-lemon-81341\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Makai Lemon<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0has been instrumental in Maiava\u2019s success. Lemon averages one touchdown per game and has totaled at least 90 receiving yards in five of six games. Through six games, Sayin has passed for 1,479 yards, 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He has dominated Big Ten competition, as he\u2019s tossed seven touchdowns and no interceptions in games against <strong>Washington<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/gophers-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota<\/a><\/strong> and No. 17 <strong>Illinois<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>He has found a strong connection with superstar wide receiver <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jeremiah-smith-60214\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeremiah Smith<\/a><\/strong>. Sayin and Smith have connected for 505 yards and seven touchdowns this season, with their longest hook-up coming via an 87-yard touchdown in the Buckeyes\u2019 70-0 drumming of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/grambling-state-tigers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grambling State<\/a><\/strong> on Sept. 6. <strong>Ohio State<\/strong> isn\u2019t scheduled to face a ranked opponent for the rest of the season, meaning Sayin could very well lead the Buckeyes back to the CFP in his first season as the starter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>USF<\/strong> senior quarterback <strong>Byrum Brown<\/strong> has been maybe the most surprising player in the sport this season. Brown leads a Bulls program that is 5-1 with their lone loss coming to No. 2 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/miami-hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miami<\/a><\/strong> on the road. Following its 63-36 drumming of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/north-texas-mean-green\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Texas<\/a><\/strong> last week, <strong>USF<\/strong> looks to be one of the favorites to clinch the GO5 bid in the College Football Playoff. In that win, Brown passed for 245 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception. He also rushed for 82 yards and two more scores.<\/p>\n<p>Through six games this season, Brown boasts 1,439 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. He\u2019s also rushed for 364 yards and five more scores. He\u2019ll lead <strong>USF<\/strong> into a monstrous matchup against No. 22 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/tiger-sports-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memphis<\/a><\/strong> on Oct. 25, which could very well determine who gets the GO5 bid in the CFP. <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore quarterback\u00a0<strong>Demond Williams Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the most exciting young players in all of college football. He has been stellar for the Huskies, boasting 1,628 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception this season. He\u2019s also rushed for 382 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.\u00a0<strong>Washington<\/strong>\u00a0has opened the season with a 5-1 record, with its lone loss coming to No. 1\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/ohio-state-buckeyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is special,\u201d head coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/jedd-fisch-132684\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jedd Fisch<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0said. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve known that for a lot of years now. So it\u2019s great to have Demond continue to be who we think we are.\u201d Fisch called Williams special after a dominant performance against\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/the-knight-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rutgers<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0last Saturday, where he passed for 402 yards (and two touchdowns) and rushed for 136 yards (and two more touchdowns) in a 38-19 win over the Scarlet Knights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/CJ-Carr-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3830677\"  \/>Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr throws a pass in the second half of a NCAA football game against NC State at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in South Bend. | \u00a9 MICHAEL CLUBB\/SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE \/ USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notre Dame<\/strong> quarterback <strong>CJ Carr<\/strong> opened his career 0-2 as the Fighting Irish\u2019s starter against <strong>Miami<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/aggie-yell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas A&amp;M<\/a><\/strong>, but has been nails ever since. He has led <strong>Notre Dame<\/strong> to four consecutive wins after opening the season 0-2. Through six games, the freshman has passed for 1,622 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. He\u2019s been more than worthy of succeeding <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/riley-leonard-100526\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riley Leonard<\/a><\/strong> in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/marcus-freeman-82674\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcus Freeman<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s offense.<\/p>\n<p>Carr will collide with <strong>USC<\/strong> quarterback <strong>Jayden Maiava<\/strong> this weekend in one of the premier quarterback battles in the sport this season. The Irish have won two consecutive games against the Trojans and lead the all-time series 50-37-5.<\/p>\n<p>After struggling mightily in <strong>Cincinnati<\/strong>\u2018s season-opening 20-17 loss to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/nebraska-cornhuskers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nebraska<\/a><\/strong>, Sorsby has been nearly perfect for the now No. 24 ranked <strong>Cincinnati<\/strong> Bearcats. Through six games this season, Sorsby has passed for 1,448 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one interception. That interception came in the season-opener, means he\u2019s gone five straight games without a pick.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s surpassed the 300-yard mark in two games this season and has passed for multiple touchdowns in five straight games. This includes a five-touchdown game against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/northwestern-state-demons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northwestern State<\/a><\/strong> and a three-touchdown game against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/bowling-green-falcons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bowling Green<\/a><\/strong>. He is currently in the mix to win Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Baylor<\/strong> quarterback <strong>Sawyer Robertson<\/strong> rounds out the top-10 of CBS Sports\u2018 QB Rankings. Robertson has led the Bears to a 4-2 record and currently leads all of college football with 2,058 yards, 19 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He\u2019s passed for at least 300 yards in four of six games this season, and has surpassed the 400-yard mark in two games (<strong>Auburn<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/smu-mustangs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SMU<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Over their next two games, Robertson and his <strong>Baylor<\/strong> team will collide against Hoover and <strong>TCU<\/strong> and Sorsby and <strong>Cincinnati<\/strong> in matchups that are guaranteed to provide some points.
