Initially, the family did not disclose the cause of death and asked for privacy as they processed their grief.<\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday\u2019s statement, Keaton\u2019s family members said the star had a deep love for animals and was passionate about supporting the unhoused community. They encouraged people to honor her memory by donating to a food bank or animal shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Keaton was known for her powerful performances in iconic pictures such as Francis Ford Coppola\u2019s \u201cGodfather\u201d movies and Woody Allen\u2019s \u201cAnnie Hall,\u201d which earned her the 1978 Academy Award for lead actress. She was also nominated for lead actress for her roles in \u201cReds\u201d (1981), \u201cMarvin\u2019s Room\u201d (1996) and \u201cSomething\u2019s Gotta Give\u201d (2003).<\/p>\n<p>Born in Los Angeles in 1946, Keaton rose to fame through her late 1960s New York stage career, earning a Tony nomination at age 25 for her role in Allen\u2019s 1969 theatrical production of \u201cPlay It Again, Sam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later in her career, she became a muse for writer-director-producer Nancy Meyers and starred in four of her movies.
