\n\tBritney Spears<\/a> is responding to her ex-husband\u2019s claims about her parenting in his new memoir.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAhead of the Oct. 21 release of his memoir You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline<\/a> has been on a press tour promoting the book, which recounts details of his marriage to Spears and their co-parenting relationship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an early excerpt published by The New York Times<\/a>, Federline alleges their son woke up to his mother standing in a doorway holding a knife. Additional pieces from the memoir claim Spears drank wine while pregnant and consumed cocaine while she was still breastfeeding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cGimme More\u201d singer took to X<\/a> on Wednesday where she addressed Federline\u2019s claims about her parenting, writing, \u201cThe constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRelationships with teenage boys is complex [sic]. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,\u201d Spears wrote. \u201cSadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me [sic]. They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Grammy winner went on to directly address Federline\u2019s memoir: \u201cTrust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here. I will always love them and if you really know me, you won\u2019t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking. I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears and Federline share two sons, Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20. The two were married in September 2004 and remained together for two years until Spears filed for divorce in 2006.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen addressing what his children think about the memoir, Federline told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> they were \u201c100 percent behind me telling my story.\u201d Of their relationship with Spears, he added, \u201cTheir situation with their mom is fluid and they do talk. They\u2019ve even gone and seen her and stuff.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the #FreeBritney movement, the \u201cWomanizer\u201d singer\u2019s conservatorship<\/a> was terminated<\/a> in 2021. Federline argues that \u201cthis situation with Britney feels like it\u2019s racing toward something irreversible\u201d in the memoir.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked what he thinks is going on in Spears\u2019 life by THR, Federline said, \u201cI think that if anybody\u2019s paying attention that they can kind of see for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAll I really want is for her to be happy and healthy, and I want her to be around for our kids,\u201d he added. \u201cMy kids want her to be around for a long time. So I\u2019ve sounded the alarm. It\u2019s become a situation that I need people to start supporting my sons and their mother.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an earlier statement, Spears\u2019 team said of the memoir, \u201cWith news from Kevin\u2019s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism.
