Don\u2019t expect Sauce Gardner and Aaron Rodgers to recreate their viral smoking handshake when the Jets and the Steelers face off in Week 1<\/a> of the 2025 NFL season. <\/p>\n

In an interview with Complex<\/a> published Tuesday, the star Jets cornerback explained that he and the new Steelers quarterback don\u2019t talk anymore after Rodgers moved on from Gang Green.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t been in touch as much,\u201d Gardner said. \u201cAt the beginning of the offseason, we were more in touch. I think once there was really a reality that he was going to go to Pittsburgh, we just felt that we didn\u2019t need to talk no more.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like we seen us having to play each other week one. We really just seen the future \u2014 I\u2019m joking about that. But no, we haven\u2019t really talked. We play each other week one. I\u2019m sure we going to talk before that, and it\u2019s going to be a good game.\u201d <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if the former teammates <\/a>had a falling out.<\/p>\n

Rodgers passed his physical Saturday and signed officially with the Steelers on a\u00a0one-year deal worth up to $19.5 million \u2014 after telling ESPN\u2019s Pat McAfee his 20th season this fall will likely be his last<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gardner and Aaron Rodgers became close after Packers traded the four-time NFL MVP quarterback to the Jets ahead of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

They went viral for their handshake<\/a>, which mimicked them smoking marijuana, while at Jets OTAs in June 2023. <\/p>\n

The next month, Gardner gifted Rodgers a chain with his jersey number \u2014 eight \u2014 in green diamonds.<\/p>\n

Rodgers missed almost all of the 2023 season after tearing his Achilles just four plays into Week 1.<\/p>\n

He returned last year and played in 17 games, recording 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.<\/p>\n

The former NFL MVP had a busy offseason, including his Jets exit.<\/p>\n

While at Steelers minicamp last month, Rodgers told reporters that\u00a0he had been married \u201ca couple months\u201d\u00a0<\/a>when asked about the black ring he had been wearing in the weeks prior.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d last week,\u00a0Rodgers explained that his wife\u2019s identity will remain private. He previously told McAfee in December he was dating a woman named Brittani.<\/p>\n
