{"id":308556,"date":"2025-10-16T17:08:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T17:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/308556\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T17:08:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T17:08:13","slug":"extremely-unusual-situation-around-chiefs-josh-simmons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/308556\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Extremely unusual&#8217; situation around Chiefs&#8217; Josh Simmons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The situation <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/15\/sports\/andy-reid-gets-cryptic-on-status-of-chiefs-rookie-josh-simmons\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surrounding Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons<\/a> remains murky \u2014 and contains a \u201clevel of mystery\u201d \u2014 after the rookie missed their Week 6 game, with ESPN Kansas City beat reporter Nate Taylor describing it as \u201cextremely unusual\u201d given the timing, how it has been handled and how little everyone knows.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons, selected No. 32 overall in April, was added to the injury report Sunday afternoon and listed as questionable due to a personal reason, and he ultimately didn\u2019t play that night \u2014 with NBC reporting on its broadcast that Simmons was in California, Taylor said <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/2fOH6k448Z52wPD73D0rkh?si=QJ-3njAlTrmEXgHmXprNrQ&amp;nd=1&amp;dlsi=f38d960adcca4d51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">during an episode of the \u201cOnly Weird Games\u201d podcast<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>But beyond that, specifics remain unknown or unconfirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Simmons is pictured during a training camp practice for the Chiefs on Aug. 5. AP<\/p>\n<p>When asked about a SiriusXM report stating that Simmons \u2014 who grew up in San Diego \u2014 left for a family emergency, Taylor said \u201cit appears it could be family-related, but I don\u2019t know that definitively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When discussing what the Chiefs\u2019 plan at left tackle could be in Week 7 against the Raiders, Taylor said there were hints from backup Jaylon Moore in the locker room Sunday that he could play again based on Simmons\u2019 situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe left at a time on Sunday that is extremely unusual,\u201d Taylor said of Simmons, \u201cand I\u2019m not sure when he\u2019s coming back. I don\u2019t know if the team \u2014 as of right now, the team doesn\u2019t know when he\u2019s coming back. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Taylor also said it appeared based on Patrick Mahomes\u2019 comments in his postgame press conference that he only found out about Simmons\u2019 absence during the Chiefs\u2019 Sunday walkthrough, when Mahomes reportedly asked where Simmons was and was told by coaches that \u201cwe don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs head coach Andy Reid declined to comment on Simmons\u2019 status Wednesday beyond the fact that general manager Brett Veach was handling the situation, while Taylor also said he asked Reid about it Monday \u2014 the day before the podcast episode was released \u2014 and didn\u2019t receive an answer, either.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndy Reid didn\u2019t want to answer it because it is somewhat becoming clear that maybe Andy Reid doesn\u2019t have an answer,\u201d Taylor said during the episode of his question to Reid on Monday. \u201cHe didn\u2019t say that definitively, but he also didn\u2019t give us a legitimate answer as to whether or not he\u2019s either A) talked to Josh Simmons, B) know what Josh Simmons is exactly going through for what the team called a personal reason, and he doesn\u2019t know when he\u2019s returning.
