El Paso, TX (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 El Paso’s own Nayeli ‘La Bikina’ Rodriguez faced challenging conditions during her recent fight at Southwest University Stadium, where rain turned the ring into a slippery battleground. <\/p>\n
Rodriguez, who fought immediately after fellow boxer Dominic ‘CantStopDom’ Barry, described the ring as “very slippery” and noted that it became increasingly slick as the fights progressed. <\/p>\n
“I had to definitely make adjustments,” Rodriguez said, explaining that she had to alter her game plan to keep her footing.<\/p>\n
Despite the adverse conditions, Rodriguez managed to secure a victory against an experienced opponent who had previously fought five world-class fighters. “I got it done. Thank God,” Rodriguez said. <\/p>\n
The fight, initially scheduled for five rounds, was interrupted by a 10-minute stoppage due to worsening rain. “I was still jumping, I was like, I cannot get cold,” Rodriguez recalled.<\/p>\n
Rodriguez credited her father and coach, Joe Rodriguez, for playing a significant role in her success. <\/p>\n
“My dad has always helped me,” Rodriguez said, acknowledging the importance of his guidance during the fight. <\/p>\n
“To me, he’s the best coach.” The father-daughter duo shares a unique chemistry, which Rodriguez believes contributes to their success. “When we’re in boxing mode, it’s coach and athlete,” Rodriguez explained.<\/p>\n
Fighting in front of her hometown crowd was a special experience for Rodriguez. <\/p>\n
“It’s always a blessing,” Rodriguez said, expressing gratitude for the support of her family and friends who braved the rain to watch her fight. <\/p>\n
As Rodriguez continues her boxing journey, she remains focused and determined, with her family by her side.<\/p>\n
