SAN ANTONIO – Two officers who were wounded by gunfire during a shootout with a suspect at a West Side hotel have been identified.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) identified the officers as Luis Cordova and Ethaniel Valdez, who were both wounded during the shootout at a hotel along US Highway 90.<\/p>\n

Around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were dispatched for a 911 Hang Up at the hotel, in which a female requested police to the location and hung up.<\/p>\n

Officer Valdez, who had an SAPD Police Cadet rider identified as Antonio Santiago, arrived and contacted the suspect. Santiago was not injured in the shooting.<\/p>\n

SAPD says that as Officer Cordova and Officer Valdez arrived, the suspect began walking away, and Officer Valdez attempted to stop the male from leaving.<\/p>\n

Police say that the suspect pulled a handgun out of his waistband and fired towards the officers. Officer Cordova and Officer Santiago returned fire, striking the suspect.<\/p>\n

The suspect died on the scene from his wounds. Both Officer Cordova and Officer Valdez were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital. <\/p>\n

Although it was initially believed that all three officers had returned fire on the suspect, only Officer Cordova and Officer Santiago returned fire.<\/p>\n
