In fact, he has now gone four straight games without allowing a single home run, with the Phillies going 2-1 with Wheeler starting.

After his latest win, Wheeler spoke to reporters while wearing a Hendrick Motorsports baseball cap, a matter of days after Chase Elliott drove the No. 9 to victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Cup Series for the storied team.

Asked how badly he wanted to reach the All-Star game this season, which is scheduled to be played in his home state of Georgia at Truist Park, Wheeler replied, “I mean, just being an All-Star in general is an honor. So I just let them figure that out.”

With an ERA of 2.27 (eighth best in the league), a 0.188 batting average against (joint fourth in the league), and an 8-3 record this season, Wheeler is among the favorites to start for the National League.

What’s more, his excellent performances could finally see him claim the NL Cy Young Award for the first time in his career. As for the reason behind his recent success, it appears Wheeler is nonethewiser.

“I couldn’t tell you,” he commented. “I’m throwing strikes, the velo is still there and I’m just executing. J.T. [Realmuto] is a big part of my game. I love throwing to him. He probably knows my stuff better than me. I’m out there just following him along and just trying to throw what he calls and just execute it.”

The Phillies will return to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park before the Cincinnati Reds head to town from Friday through Sunday.

As for Wheeler’s Hendrick Motorsports, they’ll look to continue their excellent run of form at the Grant Park 165 on Sunday on the streets of Chicago. There, they’ll be looking for the team’s sixth Series win this season, with Elliott and Kyle Larson both breathing down teammate William Byron’s neck for the Series lead.

Chicago will also mark the second round of the inaugural NASCAR In-Season Challenge. With the top 32 drivers (following Nashville) having qualified for the tournament, they were subsequently pitted against one another in the first round at Atlanta based on seeding. Now with just 16 drivers remaining, they’ll continue their fight to claim the crown and the $1 million prize in Indianapolis on July 27.

As Zack Wheeler continues to enjoy a remarkable season with the Philadelphia Phillies, it seems the 35-year-old pitcher…

[46
26323,4424,4423,1406,1459,2083,62,67,132,68,3683
0":"post-31057","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nascar","8":"tag-baseball-section","9":"tag-hendrick-motorsports","10":"tag-motorsport-section","11":"tag-nascar","12":"tag-nascar-cup-series","13":"tag-philadelphia-phillies","14":"tag-sports","15":"tag-united-states","16":"tag-unitedstates","17":"tag-us","18":"tag-zack-wheeler
["GET
