It\u2019s hard to deny what Taylor Swift\u2019s<\/a> impact has done for local economies. Now let\u2019s discuss what the megastar is doing for sea otters.<\/p>\n

When she wrote a lyric about friendship bracelets<\/a>, bead box kits<\/a> sold out as Swifties rushed to make their own one-of-a-kind designs to trade at Swift\u2019s concerts<\/a>.\u00a0When the\u00a0Eras Tour<\/a>\u00a0made its way across the country, small shops created\u00a0themed menus<\/a>,\u00a0photo ops,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0more<\/a> to get a boost in business from concertgoers.\u00a0Hospitality and rideshare businesses were booming, and the term \u201cSwiftonomics<\/a>\u201d was coined along the way.<\/p>\n

And now, after wearing a Sea Otter shirt<\/a> in the film \u201cThe Official Release Party of a Showgirl<\/a>,\u201d the Monterey Bay Aquarium<\/a> is giving the people what they want: they brought back the 90s-era design, and announced proceeds will go to their Sea Otter Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To explain how we got here, here\u2019s a quick lore recap: Taylor Swift<\/a> went on her fianc\u00e9 Travis Kelce\u2019s podcast \u201cNew Heights\u201d to announce her 12th studio album<\/a> \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d In the August 13 episode, the two were discussing with Kelce\u2019s brother and co-host Jason Kelce, how Travis had a goal in life of rescuing and befriending a sea otter.<\/p>\n

The Monterey Bay Aquarium\u00a0shared<\/a> at the time of the podcast\u2019s release that they would be more than happy to have Kelce come meet their sea otters.<\/p>\n

As part of the promotional cycle for her latest album, Swift<\/a> held \u201cThe Official Release Party of a Showgirl\u201d at movie theaters across the country from Oct. 3 \u2013 5. The film<\/a> was a mixture of an album listening party<\/a> as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the making of \u201cThe Fate of Ophelia<\/a>\u201d music video. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Swift was wearing a Sea Otter shirt and discovered it was from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.<\/p>\n

Swifties<\/a> quickly took to social media<\/a> to find out\u00a0where they could purchase the shirt, only to discover<\/a> that the tee was from 1993 and not currently available on the Monterey Bay Aquarium\u2019s website. Swifties began requesting the shirt on the aquarium\u2019s social media, and noted that they would wait for it to be officially released instead of purchasing it from bootleg sites. Additionally, Swifties didn\u2019t just talk the talk; they began making $13 donations, Swift\u2019s favorite number, towards the Monterey Bay Aquarium\u2019s Sea Otter Program, to show they were planning to walk the walk.<\/p>\n

A glimmer of hope came a few days later when, on Oct. 6, Liberty Graphic Tees<\/a>, the owner of the artwork, shared they were working with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to bring back the design. And on Saturday, Oct. 11, the two shared that they were officially collaborating<\/a> to bring back the shirt, and those who signed up for email updates would be the first to know of its return.<\/p>\n
