{"id":311764,"date":"2025-10-17T21:51:29","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T21:51:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/311764\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T21:51:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T21:51:29","slug":"trump-administration-asks-supreme-court-to-allow-deployment-of-national-guard-in-chicago-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/311764\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration asks Supreme Court to allow deployment of National Guard in Chicago area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Trump administration on Friday asked the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/us-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a> to allow the deployment of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/national-guard-troops-memphis-chicago-trump-96d489ab1b325c90da6f75a23efcf479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Guard<\/a> troops in the Chicago area, escalating President Donald Trump\u2019s conflict with Democratic governors over using the military on U.S. soil.<\/p>\n<p>The emergency appeal to the high court came after a judge prevented, for at least two weeks, the deployment of Guard members from Illinois and Texas to assist immigration enforcement. A federal appeals court refused to put the judge\u2019s order on hold.<\/p>\n<p>The conservative-dominated court has handed Trump repeated victories in emergency appeals since he took office in January, after lower courts have ruled against him and often over the objection of the three liberal justices. The court has allowed Trump to <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/supreme-court-transgender-military-ban-ef67038857bd5b99e128bf0b8866afb4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ban transgender people from the military<\/a>, claw back billions of dollars of congressionally approved federal spending, move aggressively against immigrants and fire the Senate-confirmed leaders of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-board-members-firings-nlrb-supreme-court-1ecda00f901360cc2b2f025bdde703d6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">independent federal agencies<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>In the dispute over the Guard, U.S. District Judge April Perry said she found no substantial evidence that a \u201cdanger of rebellion\u201d is brewing in Illinois during Trump\u2019s immigration crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>But Solicitor General D. John Sauer, Trump\u2019s top Supreme Court lawyer, urged the justices to step in immediately. Perry\u2019s order, Sauer wrote, \u201cimpinges on the President\u2019s authority and needlessly endangers federal personnel and property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleven people were arrested at a Friday morning protest outside a U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement facility in the west Chicago suburb of Broadview. Law enforcement had urged demonstrators to stay in designated \u201cprotest zones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, the Broadview ICE facility has been the site of tense protests, where federal agents have previously used tear gas and other chemical agents on protesters and journalists.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge in Oregon also has temporarily blocked the deployment of National Guard troops there. <\/p>\n<p>Guard troops from several states also are patrolling the nation\u2019s capital and Memphis, Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-immigration-raid-troops-military-2d81f5c35f9d11db9e32234e03480497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a California case<\/a>, a judge in September said the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-newsom-los-angeles-national-guard-d6c8450a3ac2de34e669ef0836d22cbc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployment was illegal<\/a>.
