Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, UPenn has agreed both to apologize for its past Title IX violations and to ensure that women\u2019s sports are protected at the University for future generations of female athletes,\u201d Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.36351531;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36407795\" width=\"804\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/penns-lia-thomas-prepares-swim-107474225.jpg\" alt=\"Lia Thomas, University of Pennsylvania swimmer, at Ivy League Championships.\" class=\"wp-image-36407795\"  \/>Trans swimmer Lia Thomas will be stripped of their past University of Pennsylvania Division I swimming titles after the school faced significant pressure from the Trump administration. AP<\/p>\n<p>The resolution agreement signed by the university will require it to undertake a host of additional actions, including adopting \u201cbiology-based definitions for \u2018male\u2019 and \u2018female\u2019 under Title IX\u201d and issuing a public statement that it will no longer allow biological men to compete in female athletic programs or occupy women-only locker rooms.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36407835\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/university-pennsylvania-signage-seen-103492122.jpg\" alt=\"University of Pennsylvania signage on a bridge.\" class=\"wp-image-36407835\"  \/>The university was found to have violated Title IX by \u201callowing a male to compete in female athletic programs and occupy female-only intimate facilities.\u201d AP<\/p>\n<p>The decision was cheered by athletes who were impacted by the inclusion of trans athletes in women\u2019s sports in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a former UPenn swimmer who had to compete against and share a locker room with a male athlete, I am deeply grateful to the Trump Administration for refusing to back down on protecting women and girls and restoring our rightful accolades.
