SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Travis Park is expected to fill up again Saturday afternoon as organizers prepare for the second \u201cNo Kings Day\u201d protest.<\/p>\n
50501 San Antonio is the organization holding the protest and their event organizer Alex Svehla say this weekend\u2019s protest could exceed the 10,000 people who showed up last June.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don’t have any reason to expect otherwise right now,\u201d said Svehla.<\/p>\n
Organizers say the demonstration is meant to stand up against certain policies of the Trump administration, particularly its approach to immigration.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve never had a president joke about running for a third term since it became a constitutional amendment,\u201d said Svehla.<\/p>\n
The protest is being promoted as peaceful, and organizers say they\u2019ve been in contact with the San Antonio Police Department who’s staff tells us department sent us officers will be stationed around the park to protect peaceful demonstrators.<\/p>\n
Governor Greg Abbott announced he will be sending National Guard troops to Austin. We confirmed they will also be at the Alamo like they were in June. <\/p>\n
Professor Geoffrey Corn, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and expert in military law, says the National Guard is distinctly different from active-duty forces.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey train for a domestic mission, and many of them enlist in the National Guard because they feel a pride in being able to support the governor and state to protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens,\u201d said Corn.<\/p>\n
