UNLV<\/a><\/strong> coach Dan Mullen<\/a><\/strong> wrote Friday on X he has \u201c0.0 interest<\/a>\u201d in the Arkansas<\/a><\/strong> head coach job. However, he called for the Razorbacks to hire Florida State<\/a><\/strong> offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mullen\u2019s name has come up a few times in the early part of the coaching carousel, which is already starting to spin. But he made it emphatically clear<\/a><\/strong> he plans to be at UNLV next year. The Rebels are off to a 6-0 start to his first season at the helm.<\/p>\n

In his post Friday, Mullen doubled down on his interest in leaving. He said he\u2019s not eyeing the Arkansas job, but said Malzahn should be the guy for the Razorbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201c0.0 interest in Arkansas,\u201d Mullen wrote in response to a video of reporter Mike Irwin<\/strong> addressing his rumored interest. \u201cThanks for the shout out though. Y\u2019all need to hire Gus Malzahn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malzahn, of course, is in his first season as Florida State\u2019s offensive coordinator after leaving UCF<\/a><\/strong> at the end of the 2024 season. A former Auburn<\/a><\/strong> and Arkansas State<\/a><\/strong> head coach, he has a career 105-62 record.<\/p>\n

Mullen\u2019s name has come up in early conversations for multiple job openings. On3\u2019s\u00a0Pete Nakos<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0listed him as a name to watch for both the\u00a0Arkansas\u00a0and\u00a0UCLA<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0jobs after those opened. But former\u00a0Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Florida coach\u00a0Urban Meyer<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0suggested Mullen for another job:\u00a0Penn State<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow about Dan Mullen,\u201d\u00a0Meyer said on The Triple Option<\/a>. \u201cDamn right he is (undefeated) \u2026 Scored 51 last week \u2026 And you know, he\u2019s from the northeast, by the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, speaking with reporters this week, Dan Mullen proclaimed he\u2019d still be with the Rebels next year as the rumors swirl. He definitively said as much during a press conference this week and said he told the players the same thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be here. \u2026 You want me to do that? I\u2019m gonna be the head coach at UNLV next year,\u201d\u00a0Mullen said<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ll be here. I\u2019m not going anywhere. \u2026 I said it to the players. I told them that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mullen spent some time away from coaching after his departure from\u00a0Florida<\/a><\/strong>, but returned to the sidelines this year at UNLV following\u00a0Barry Odom\u2019s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0departure. So far, it\u2019s been a strong start as UNLV takes an undefeated record into Week 8\u2019s matchup against\u00a0Boise State<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the era of the\u00a0transfer portal<\/a><\/strong>, Mullen\u2019s message to the players was simple. He doesn\u2019t want them worrying about him leaving.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the transfer portal world,\u201d Mullen said. \u201cI said, \u2018Don\u2019t get all excited and think I might go somewhere you think is, like, a better place. I\u2019m gonna be here.\u2019 You guys are stuck with me.\u201d<\/p>\n
