{"id":313605,"date":"2025-10-18T14:26:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T14:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/313605\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T14:26:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T14:26:21","slug":"white-house-fires-off-childish-insults-over-trumps-putin-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/313605\/","title":{"rendered":"White House Fires Off Childish Insults Over Trump\u2019s Putin Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The White House responded to requests for information about Trump\u2019s upcoming summit with <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/donald-trump-snubs-vladimir-putins-birthday-as-both-admit-their-bromance-is-over\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/donald-trump-snubs-vladimir-putins-birthday-as-both-admit-their-bromance-is-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/donald-trump-snubs-vladimir-putins-birthday-as-both-admit-their-bromance-is-over\/\">Putin<\/a> in Budapest in typical fashion\u2014with a string of childish insults.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump announced plans to meet with Putin over the next few weeks, with talks set to be held in the same city where Russia once <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.hks.harvard.edu\/publications\/budapest-memorandum-25-between-past-and-future&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hks.harvard.edu\/publications\/budapest-memorandum-25-between-past-and-future\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed an agreement<\/a> promising it would never invade <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/melania-has-been-secretly-working-with-putin-for-months\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/melania-has-been-secretly-working-with-putin-for-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/melania-has-been-secretly-working-with-putin-for-months\/\">Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">One expert from the Washington, D.C.-based Center for a New American Security said few people would consider Budapest neutral.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But when asked who chose to hold the meeting in Budapest, a location with great historical significance to both Russia and Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt simply <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.co.uk\/entry\/trump-to-hold-putin-summit-in-budapest-where-russia-promised-not-to-invade-ukraine_uk_68f1ce64e4b078755767aa37&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.co.uk\/entry\/trump-to-hold-putin-summit-in-budapest-where-russia-promised-not-to-invade-ukraine_uk_68f1ce64e4b078755767aa37\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told HuffPost<\/a>, \u201cYour mom did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Her playground-level response was echoed by White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, who also responded to the query with a curt, \u201cYour mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s announcement came during a press conference on Thursday evening, ahead of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"President Donald Trump (L) greets Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Oct. 17, 2025 in Washington, D.C.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/234XG332GVEA7MXEUILHRMKP6Q.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"527\"\/>President Donald Trump (L) greets Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Oct. 17, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Chen Mengtong\/China News Service via Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re gonna be meeting in Hungary, Viktor Orban is going to be hosting, and it\u2019s going to be really something,\u201d Trump said of the summit, which will be the first time he and Putin will have met face-to-face since peace talks in Alaska back in August failed to produce any meaningful results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When asked whether the president is aware of the significance of Budapest in terms of Russia-Ukraine relations, analyst Jim Townsend of the Center for a New American Security told HuffPost, \u201cI\u2019m sure Trump doesn\u2019t know and doesn\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cTrump likes Orban and probably thinks he\u2019s doing him a solid,\u201d he added. \u201cAlso, Putin is an Orban friend. Evan Vucci\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Orb\u00e1n, a right-wing autocrat, has borrowed heavily from both Trump and Putin\u2019s playbooks to dismantle much of Hungary\u2019s democracy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Since the start of the war, Orb\u00e1n has used his position to delay military aid to Ukraine and act as a prominent pro-Russian voice in European politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In April, Hungary voted to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, meaning they are no longer required to uphold the arrest warrant issued for Putin in 2023 over his abduction of Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Although the exact agenda of the meeting is not yet known, the catalyst appears to be the U.S. decision to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, which would allow Kyiv to strike targets deep within Russia on an unprecedented scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a press briefing, Putin\u2019s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, said the Russian president had directly raised the matter of providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine with Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cVladimir Putin reiterated his point that Tomahawks would not change the situation on the battlefield but would cause significant harm to relations between our countries, not to mention the prospects for peaceful settlement,\u201d Ushakov told reporters at the Kremlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Zelensky, meanwhile, taunted the Russians, <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/t.me\/V_Zelenskiy_official\/16510&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/V_Zelenskiy_official\/16510\" rel=\"nofollow\">writing on Telegram<\/a> that \u201cWe can already see that Moscow is rushing to resume dialogue as soon as it hears about Tomahawks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin shake hands at the end of a press conference at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on August 15, 2025 in Anchorage, Alaska where they did not take any questions and did not reveal anything had been achieved at their meeting besides a promise for more talks.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ANP6DKM3DZHI5FLQI47UZHOJ24.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>The meeting in Budapest will be Trump and Putin\u2019s first since the August summit in Alaska. Andrew Harnik\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Elsewhere during the press briefing, Trump once again expressed confusion that Zelensky has a poor relationship with Putin, who has repeatedly announced intentions to annex and ethnically cleanse all of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI mean, we have a problem.
