{"id":31469,"date":"2025-07-02T02:47:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T02:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/31469\/"},"modified":"2025-07-02T02:47:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T02:47:11","slug":"nyc-schools-shadow-chancellor-to-step-down-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/31469\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC schools &#8216;shadow chancellor&#8217; to step down next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second-most senior official at New York City\u2019s public school system is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DOEChancellor\/status\/1940162417075380579\" rel=\"nofollow\">stepping down from his post<\/a>, Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos announced Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>First Deputy Chancellor Dan Weisberg, whose involvement in major education initiatives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chalkbeat.org\/newyork\/2024\/10\/09\/nyc-schools-dan-weisberg-plays-big-role-amid-david-banks-resignation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earned him the nickname of \u201cshadow chancellor,\u201d<\/a> joined the Adams administration at the start of the mayor\u2019s tenure. His last day is in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDan was at the center of all our critical work,\u201d Aviles-Ramos said in a statement, focusing on his roles in standardizing curriculum and expanding college and career programs. \u201cOn behalf of our staff, students, and families, we offer him our deepest thanks and wish him all the best in his next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weisberg was credited by the former chancellor, David Banks \u2014 who was pushed out of the administration amid a federal investigation ensnaring City Hall \u2014 with having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2024\/09\/25\/melissa-aviles-ramos-new-nyc-schools-chancellor-replacing-david-banks-adams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pushed for Aviles-Ramos to be his successor<\/a>. A couple of years beforehand, Weisberg had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2024\/11\/02\/nycs-schools-chief-melissa-aviles-ramos-says-all-students-should-speak-more-than-one-language\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tapped her to lead the system\u2019s response<\/a> to tens of thousands of newly enrolled migrant students.<\/p>\n<p>Weisberg previously served as the school system\u2019s chief executive on labor issues under\u00a0former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who often clashed with the city\u2019s powerful teachers union.
