{"id":314732,"date":"2025-10-19T00:45:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T00:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/314732\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T00:45:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T00:45:16","slug":"thousands-protest-in-downtown-fort-worth-for-no-kings-rally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/314732\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands protest in downtown Fort Worth for \u2018No Kings\u2019 rally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Storms over downtown Fort Worth were on and off Saturday, but shouts of No Kings protesters were steady throughout the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The event\u2019s organizers estimated a crowd of 6,500 congregated in Burk Burnett Park, where chants competed with wind and, at times, drumming rain to protest President Donald Trump\u2019s perceived authoritarianism and pushing of the limits of executive power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImpeach Trump,\u201d \u201cAbolish ICE\u201d and \u201cSave Democracy\u201d were common messages on signs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/10\/16\/no-kings-protests-in-fort-worth-arlington-expected-to-draw-thousands-saturday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">national issues<\/a> sparked this <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/06\/14\/protesters-in-downtown-fort-worth-declare-u-s-has-no-kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second wave of No Kings protests<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokings.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over 2,500 cities<\/a> across the country, Fort Worth speakers called upon attendees to fight MAGA culture locally and work to turn Tarrant County blue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community we have here feels great because we\u2019re all here for the same fight,\u201d said progressive activist Chris Tackett, who called for the crowd to show up to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/10\/17\/early-voting-starts-oct-20-heres-where-when-to-vote-in-tarrant-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elections<\/a> as well as City Council and commissioners court meetings. \u201cWe gotta make sure we are carrying the fight out of here and making a movement out of this moment right here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The protest was peaceful. A few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1Bud8QfV2x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">counterprotesters were scattered<\/a> throughout the crowd, but one approached by the Report declined to comment. <\/p>\n<p>A Fort Worth Police Department public relations officer deferred to event organizers for crowd estimates but confirmed that no arrests or major incidents were reported.<\/p>\n<p>Several No Kings protesters wore inflatable costumes \u2014 a national trend intended to uplift the mood of protests and keep them from getting violent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter what we do, how peacefully we protest, the media is going to turn it around and make it look like we\u2019re violently in the streets or we\u2019re doing something wrong,\u201d said Lexi Montgomery, who wore a bright pink inflatable shark costume. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to make a bunch of inflatable characters walking around look like they\u2019re violent, insurrectionist, antifa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth resident William Hoover attended the protest with his wife and two daughters, ages 5 and 7. It was Hoover\u2019s first protest, he said, and he was initially hesitant to bring his daughters. He said he decided to take action for the sake of his children\u2019s future and \u201cgo against tyranny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn authoritarian government doesn\u2019t happen overnight,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s chipped away day by day, slowly, little things at a time. (Drew Shaw | Fort Worth Report)<\/p>\n<p>Several Republicans took to social media to criticize the protest, including Hannah Beth Jones, vice chair for the Texas Young Republican Federation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccidentally ran into the Fort Worth \u2018No Kings\u2019 protest today \u2014 the Handmaid\u2019s Tale cosplay convention was apparently in town,\u201d Jones said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/texashannahbeth\/status\/1979635278731227584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Denise Gordon, a 70-year-old lifelong Fort Worth resident, said she\u2019s been involved in activism since Vietnam War protests in college. She said she feels Trump\u2019s immigration crackdown and pardon of Jan. 6 rioters serve as examples of how the current administration has crossed lines and remind her of stories her father told about fighting fascism during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>Storms subsided about 2 p.m., three hours after the protest began.
