{"id":31502,"date":"2025-07-02T03:04:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T03:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/31502\/"},"modified":"2025-07-02T03:04:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T03:04:15","slug":"insider-data-connected-fitness-stabilizes-post-pandemic-hvlp-gyms-dominate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/31502\/","title":{"rendered":"Insider Data: Connected Fitness Stabilizes Post-Pandemic, HVLP Gyms Dominate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>According to data from Sports Innovation Lab, connected fitness is settling into a new normal while low-price gyms continue to win big<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the fitness industry settles into a post-pandemic flow, a couple of trend lines appear to be emerging: first, connected fitness probably won\u2019t ever be as popular as it was at the height of the pandemic, but it\u2019s still a strong segment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Second, high-value, low-price (HVLP) gyms are dominating, winning over new members and getting their existing members to shell out more cash for premium services like wellness and recovery offerings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sports Innovation Lab co-founder and CEO Josh Walker shined a light on these trends at the <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/inside-the-atn-innovation-summit-fitness-wellness-leaders-usher-in-a-new-era\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATN Innovation Summit 2025<\/a>, using proprietary data from consumer spending habits to back up the assertions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsilab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sports Innovation Lab<\/a>, which has worked with some of the world\u2019s top sports, media and entertainment properties, including the NFL and ESPN, recently began analyzing the fitness industry through a <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/sports-innovation-lab-fitness-consumer-data\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">partnership with Athletech News<\/a>. The firm tracks and analyzes consumer spending data, painting a picture of what it calls the \u201cfluid fan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the Innovation Summit, Walker noted that while the figures Sports Innovation Lab pulls only cover \u201ca fraction of the U.S. population,\u201d the firm\u2019s data is accurate and is indicative of broader trends in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not saying these are the numbers you would report to (Wall Street), but these are absolutely directionally correct,\u201d Walker said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connected Fitness Finds New Normal After Pandemic Boom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/connected-fitness-outlook-brands-go-all-in-on-strength-ai-powered-personalization\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">connected fitness<\/a>, Sports Innovation Lab believes the sector is settling into something of a new normal post-pandemic. Demand for connected fitness is still fairly strong following the COVID boom, but top brands aren\u2019t experiencing the same type of double-digit year-over-year growth they were during the pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re returning to a sort of normal \u2013 not that there was a normal before \u2013 but this seems to be more of the baseline in this industry,\u201d Walker summarized.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/connected-fitness-chart-1024x524.webp.webp\" alt=\"chart tracking connected fitness performance over the years\" class=\"wp-image-131494\"  \/>source: Sports Innovation Lab<\/p>\n<p>He also urged fitness and wellness industry leaders to think more broadly about what it means to be a \u201cconnected fitness\u201d company in 2025. Brands like <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/peloton-creates-cto-role-to-power-next-chapter-of-ai-innovation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peloton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/tonal-2-all-black-design-new-strength-training-tech\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tonal<\/a> undoubtedly fall into this category, but health and fitness wearables should too, Walker believes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Garmin, for example, is increasingly playing in the \u201cconnected fitness\u201d sector with its smartwatches. In Q1 of 2024, Garmin reported that its fitness category revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/garmin-sees-increase-in-fitness-revenue-as-wearables-boom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increased by 40% to $343 million<\/a>, a new first-quarter record that the company says was led by strong demand for advanced wearables.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/oura-hits-5-2b-valuation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oura<\/a> has also seen a significant increase in sales, according to Sports Innovation Lab data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConnected fitness consumers love data,\u201d Walker said of why wearables are growing in popularity among this segment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>HVLP Gym \u2018Dominance\u2019 Is Real, Data Shows<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/hvlp-low-price-gyms-mid-tier-analysis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rise of HVLP gym brands<\/a> isn\u2019t exactly news to anyone plugged into the fitness and wellness industry, but the extent to which they\u2019re outpacing the market might be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  See Also<\/p>\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/five-personal-training-certifications-five-unique-personalities\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/personal-trainer-cert-180x180.webp.webp\" class=\"attachment-theissue-thumbnail-x2 size-theissue-thumbnail-x2 wp-post-image\" alt=\"Personal trainer working out with client\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHVLP dominance is real,\u201d Walker said. \u201cWe see it in our data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to consumer purchases tracked by Sports Innovation Lab, top HVLP brands are doing significantly better than they were in 2021, with annual spend tripling and even quadrupling for some brands.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Planet Fitness<\/strong>: $9 million annual spend in 2021 to $27 million in 2024<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crunch Fitness<\/strong>: $6 million in 2021 to $25 million in 2024<\/li>\n<li><strong>E\u014dS Fitness<\/strong>: $2 million in 2021 to $9 million in 2024<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vasa Fitness<\/strong>: $2 million in 2021 to $6 million in 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"569\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/hvlp-chart-1024x569.webp.webp\" alt=\"chart tracking HVLP gym annual spend over the years\" class=\"wp-image-131493\"  \/>source: Sports Innovation Lab<\/p>\n<p>Spend-per-purchase is also increasing for HVLP gym brands, according to Sports Innovation Lab, meaning gym members are spending more on their memberships and add-on services than they did in the past.
