SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Graffiti linked to the nationwide \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests against the Trump administration was sprayed throughout the North Side on Saturday, including at a church and on several walls in Stone Oak.<\/p>\n

District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears told KSAT she noticed the graffiti throughout the day after attending a town hall on Project Marvel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s everywhere. It\u2019s all over the overpass. It\u2019s on the Wells Fargo building sign,\u201d Spears said.<\/p>\n

Vandalism was also seen on neighborhood walls in Stone Oak and at the Community Bible Church near her field office.<\/p>\n

She estimated seeing or being shown photos of about seven locations vandalized.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing, it\u2019s sad. It\u2019s disheartening. I mean, I\u2019m all about free speech, but vandalism is not free speech,\u201d she said. \u201cLaw enforcement is the most effective way to deter especially vandalizing crimes like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Across the nation, \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests were planned for more than 2,500 cities, including San Antonio. The demonstrations criticize what participants perceive as the government\u2019s rapid shift toward authoritarianism under President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Some of the words spraypainted on walls stated \u201cTrump sucks\u201d and \u201cNo more Trump,\u201d according to photos provided by the councilwoman\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

On Instagram<\/a>, CBC Senior Pastor Ed Newton posted images of the graffiti that state \u201cJesus wants Trump gone!\u201d and \u201cNo king but God.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo spew evil, spray paint this on our church, in a form of hate, causes me to question the very belief system of who participate, condone, and not condemn this kind of hate language and ideology,\u201d Newton posted, in part.<\/p>\n

When asked about the protest itself, Spears reiterated her support for free speech but distanced herself from the movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not my point of view at all, but I believe in free speech,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She noted that a similar protest in June had been peaceful without vandalism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis stands out greatly. It\u2019s hate speech, it\u2019s hateful, it\u2019s mean,\u201d Spears said, adding it was alarming and unclear what the intent was. \u201cClearly, they came out to an area far from where the protest was supposed to be to come vandalize property.\u201d<\/p>\n

She hopes authorities will identify those responsible and increase patrols to prevent further vandalism.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Gov. Greg Abbott decided to send the National Guard to Austin ahead of the protest, which he said was \u201cantifa-linked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTexas will deter criminal mischief and work with local law enforcement to arrest anyone engaging in acts of violence or damaging property,\u201d Abbott said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Some conservative politicians have condemned the protests as \u201cHate America\u201d rallies, while others say that they represent a \u201cpatriotic\u201d fight for First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n
