For a championship-or-bust caliber team like the New York Knicks<\/a> in the 2025-26 campaign, keeping all of their options open with regard to potential trades will be crucial leading up to the mid-season trade deadline.<\/p>\n

The storied franchise could be searching for a deal that puts them over the top this season, as evidenced by their reported discussions<\/a> with the Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> centered around 2-time MVP point-forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n

While the process of acquiring a player of Antetokounmpo’s status is already an uphill climb, the organization will not be able to include one of their veteran role players in a potential trade thanks to a new wrinkle in his contract<\/a> for this season.<\/p>\n

“Assuming Landry Shamet is sticking on the Knicks regular season roster, he’ll have a no-trade clause for this season,” Spotrac’s Keith Smith shared via X on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

“One-year contracts that come with Early Bird or Bird rights come with an implied NTC, unless the players waives the NTC.”<\/p>\n

Heading into his eighth NBA season and second as a member of the Knicks in 2025-26, New York’s 28-year-old shooting guard Landry Shamet will be aiming to support the contending squad with his historically accurate three-point jump-shooting ability.<\/p>\n

Since entering the league as the Los Angeles Clippers<\/a>‘ No. 26 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Shamet has compiled career averages of 8.3 points and 1.5 assists while knocking down 38.5% of his attempts from distance.<\/p>\n

In his debut season with the Knicks in 2024-25, the seldom-used guard was still able to knock down a blistering 39.7% of his 3.1 attempts from deep in just 15.2 minutes.<\/p>\n

Thanks to his presumed no-trade clause for this year, Shamet can rest easily knowing that he cannot be included in a franchise-altering trade for a superstar, or any other transaction that hastily ships him out and potentially denies him a chance at winning an NBA title.<\/p>\n
