Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>The quirky East Village tradition trekking down Avenue B featured show-stopping pooches in elaborate looks inspired by the likes of the Moulin Rouge, Guns N\u2019 Roses, Barbie and even the president.<\/p>\n<p>Among the dolled-up doggies was 8-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Frankie Sinatra of Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got [him] the pilot costume one year for Halloween,\u201d said Frankie\u2019s owner, Lucy Adragna, of Southampton, who works assisting real-life aviators at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. \u201cI dress him up every year, and it grew into doing parades. \u2026 He loves all the attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maria, dressed as Barbie, sits in a pink toy car. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Rachel McCaslin, 30, of Gowanus, was with her recently rescued pup Daphne, who was dressed as Nerds Gummy Clusters candy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople love dogs, this just makes people smile,\u201d McCaslin said. \u201cIt\u2019s joy, and we need it now more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scores of dog-free revelers also flocked to the pooch parade, with 24-year-old West Village resident Emma Garman proudly proclaiming, \u201cWe\u2019re dog enthusiasts\u201d as she waited by the barricade for the parade to start.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love it, I keep coming back every year \u2014 and I bring other people with me,\u201d said pal Miranda Fairbanks.<\/p>\n<p>East Village resident Theo Tittle said, <strong>\u201c<\/strong>I think [the parade] brings people together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to find community sometimes,\u201d Tittle, 23, said. \u201cPeople with their dogs in New York are a bit careful and shelter their dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Howard and dog Pumpkin go for a horror twist for their costume. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Following pup parade tradition, this year\u2019s grand marshals hailed from the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/21\/us-news\/problem-plagued-nyc-animal-shelters-suspend-intake-of-pets-due-to-overcrowding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">city\u2019s crowded animal shelters<\/a> in hopes of finding a future fur-ever friend in the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>The honorees included 5-month-old terrier-boxer mix That\u2019s Hot, 4-year-old Olive, and adorable mutt Brunson repping Pup Starz Rescue, Social Tees and the ASPCA, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccereal killers\u201d are crowned the winners of 2025\u2019s costume contest. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>The parade\u2019s canine costume competition \u2013 featuring 300 photo-ready entrants \u2013 was whittled down to 20 finalists following the march, with competitors ranging from French bulldog Halvor sporting an \u201cAudrey II\u201d costume from \u201cLittle Shop of Horrors\u201d to Yorkipoo Puccini wearing matching Nutcracker costumes with former Radio City Rockette Leslie Riddle.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, it was a furry trio Charlie, Emily and Zoey dressed as a \u201ccereal killer\u201d crime scene \u2014 complete with a human \u201cSnap,\u201d \u201cCrackle\u201d and \u201cPop\u201d \u2014 that was issued the top prize: a year\u2019s worth of free dog food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just so impressed by the creativity: this is the best of New York right here,\u201d said contest judge Matt Sherman, of Pumpkin pet insurance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t get this anywhere else.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Their boo is worse than their bite.
