\t\t\t\t\tThe Detroit Red Wings acquired veteran goaltender John Gibson<\/a> from the Anaheim Ducks on July 1st, 2025; initially thought of as a solution in the net, Hockeytown was thrown for a loop with how he started the season.<\/p>\n

John Gibson has been sold as the piece to take the Red Wings to the promised land.<\/p>\n

The veteran netminder had been a solid player behind a terrible Ducks team the last few seasons.<\/p>\n

The team traded Petr Mrazek<\/a> and two draft picks for the veteran goaltender.Now, thought to be a starter for the Red Wings upon his arrival<\/a>, his statistics had shown otherwise.<\/p>\n

In his first game wearing the winged wheel, he was a disaster, with a 5-1 finish.<\/p>\n

He’d finish the night<\/a> with 5 goals against on 13 shots against, and a dismal .615 save percentage.<\/p>\n

John Gibson Improves His Play for the Detroit Red Wings in the last 3 games<\/p>\n

Since then, it seems as if Gibson has thrown a twist our way as he’s played 3 games total for the Red Wings.<\/p>\n

Obviously, not in the starting role, as he and Cam Talbot share the crease this season.<\/p>\n

He’s steadily improved his numbers each time he steps into the net, and the last two games have seen better numbers.<\/p>\n

Against the Atlantic Division foes, the Tampa Bay Lightning, he made 32 saves on 33 shots against, giving up only 1 goal for a victory, and a .969 save percentage.<\/p>\n

While his showing against the Edmonton Oilers wasn’t so definite, he still gave up only 2 goals, saving 18 of 20, and ending the night with a .889 save percentage.<\/p>\n

He’s nowhere near the perfect goaltender, but it appears that the Red Wings will get the best out of Gibson; it’s a matter of reps more for the veteran, which appears to be needed more than anything.<\/p>\n
