For many families, the road to welcoming children can be long and include many twists and turns.<\/p>\n
That was the case for a Valley mother, who welcomed a baby boy earlier this year after what doctors described as a \u201cc\u201d high-risk pregnancy.<\/p>\n
Bendu Kiazolu, 35, gave birth to her son, Benzi, in March at the Abrazo Health Arrowhead campus in Glendale after she underwent an innovative treatment program that included 18-hour-long infusion sessions meant to suppress her immune system.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you were to characterize Bendu\u2019s clinical situation when she started this pregnancy with us, it was probably already a one-in-a-million pregnancy, if not one-in-five-million,\u201d Dr. Ravi Gunatilake, the specialist in maternal and fetal medicine at Abrazo Arrowhead who led Kiazolu\u2019s care team, said\u00a0.<\/p>\n
Gunatilake determined the treatment plan after determining Kiazolu\u2019s immune system was attacking her unborn children through the placenta.<\/p>\n
This is a rare condition known as\u00a0, or GALD.<\/p>\n
This condition led to Kiazolu losing five children before the birth of her son, according to the hospital.<\/p>\n

The time of death was 10:40 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR).<\/p>\n John Barcello, ADCRR\u2019s deputy director, said IVs began being inserted at 10:05 a.m. The process was completed at 10:21 a.m.<\/p>\n \u201cMr. Djerf\u2019s veins were not optimal, which was expected, resulting in a few attempts prior to a successful IV placement,\u201d Barcello said.<\/p>\n Djerf then received a total of four injections, with the final injection completed at 10:28 a.m.<\/p>\n Demonstrations take place around the Valley, nationwide for \u2018No Kings\u2019 protests<\/a><\/p>\n Arizonans protesting the country\u2019s trajectory under President Donald Trump gathered throughout Saturday around the Valley as part of \u201cNo Kings\u201d demonstrations.<\/p>\n A Tempe \u201cNo Kings\u201d march started in Cole Park at 8 a.m. and Tempe Rising Indivisible \u2014 the event organizer \u2014 told\u00a0KTAR News 92.3 FM\u00a0that more than 5,000 people showed up.<\/p>\n Demonstrations were also planned at the following locations:<\/p>\n \u201cThe president thinks his rule is absolute,\u201d \u00a0the organization wrote on an\u00a0event listing<\/a>\u00a0for Saturday\u2019s demonstration at the state capitol in Phoenix. \u201cBut in America, we don\u2019t have kings, and we won\u2019t back down against chaos, corruption and cruelty.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests took over parts of the\u00a0Valley in June<\/a> to oppose Trump and his expensive military parade in Washington D.C. to honor the Army\u2019s 250th anniversary, which also coincided with his birthday.<\/p>\n Gov.
