Prog-rock trio Rush on Monday added San Antonio and 16 other new dates to its much-anticipated reunion tour. <\/p>\n

Bassist-vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson will perform Sept. 23 of next year at Frost Bank Center as part of the Canadian band\u2019s Fifty Something tour, which now totals 40 dates. German drummer Anika Nilles will fill in for the late Neil Peart. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Tickets go on sale at noon Friday, Oct. 31, at the Rush\u2019s website<\/a>.\u00a0An artist presale begins Monday, Oct 27, for those who sign up online<\/a> by 10:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. <\/p>\n

For longtime fans, the addition of an Alamo City date should come as little surprise. <\/p>\n

Rush struggled for years to find an audience for its riffy rock with brainy lyrics and complex time signatures. However, thanks to frequent KISS-FM airplay and bookings by local concert promoter Stone City Attractions, the trio found a receptive base in SA before early-\u201980s albums such as Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures made it a household name in the U.S. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, former KISS-FM DJ Lou Roney told the Current<\/a> in a 2018 interview that he and fellow jock Joe Anthony helped construct an addition to the stage at Randy\u2019s Rodeo so the band could fit all its equipment when it performed its first San Antonio show as part of a 1975 tour.<\/p>\n

Rush last played in San Antonio on Nov. 30, 2012, according to fan site Shows of Hands<\/a>. The band went on what many fans assumed was a permanent hiatus when Peart died in 2020 at age 67. <\/p>\n
