{"id":319415,"date":"2025-10-20T20:33:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T20:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/319415\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T20:33:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T20:33:14","slug":"coco-gauff-states-what-she-has-learned-from-novak-djokovic-after-seeing-footage-early-on-in-his-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/319415\/","title":{"rendered":"Coco Gauff states what she has learned from Novak Djokovic after seeing footage early on in his career"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>   <a class=\"fw\" href=\"https:\/\/profile.google.com\/cp\/Cg0vZy8xMXlnMTNoeXE4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/wp-content\/themes\/grv-media\/img\/google-discover.svg\" alt=\"\"\/> Follow us on Google Discover <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Coco Gauff is currently enjoying time away from the WTA Tour ahead of another appearance at the WTA Finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-issues-public-message-to-her-fans-after-finishing-her-asian-swing-with-the-wuhan-open-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gauff has returned home<\/a> following a successful Asian swing, during which the American star won the Wuhan Open.<\/p>\n<p>The trophy arrived after a semifinal run at the China Open, which the 21-year-old entered on the back of the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of eyes were on the 2023 US Open champion, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gauff<\/a> fell in the round of 16 to former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA<\/a> number one Naomi Osaka.<\/p>\n<p>She surprised many heading into the Grand Slam, having both fired her coach Matt Daly and appointed biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2230664038-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"Gavin MacMillan and Coco Gauff in conversation during practice ahead of the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-123459\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesCoco Gauff states what she has learned from Novak Djokovic from his early career<\/p>\n<p>Gauff has now looked back on her time in New York and the decision to hire MacMillan, explaining how she has taken notes from 24-time Grand Slam champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The world number three told The National: \u201cI was looking at Novak and he\u2019s someone who didn\u2019t have as great of a serve in the beginning of his career, obviously different issue than me, but he just wasn\u2019t serving as strong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he made that change and has gone on to obviously be Novak Djokovic. And even at that time, he was still like a successful player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo yeah, I\u2019ve drawn on those experiences. And obviously Aryna [Sabalenka] and Venus [Williams] and those who\u2019ve done those changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think [Lorenzo] Musetti, even recently, we were at US Open on the court, sharing the court together, both of us serving, we both changed our serve recently and we were laughing about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo yeah, just seeing that other players, it\u2019s just inspiring knowing tennis is won by small margins and those little differences make a difference. Gauff says if she made the right decision to hire Gavin MacMillan just before the US Open<\/p>\n<p>Gauff\u2019s serving struggles have involved double faults in particular, with the American having hit 405 this season, more than any other player.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Djokovic is among the top five servers on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Tour<\/a> in 2025, while he\u2019s ranked fourth for % service games won.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/sam-querrey-and-john-isner-have-interesting-views-on-coco-gauff-firing-her-coach-just-before-the-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Isner commended Gauff for hiring MacMillan<\/a> just before the US Open, with the player herself now looking back on that major decision.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cObviously US Open, that tournament was super tough for me mentally, but I definitely think it was the right decision, even though I maybe wouldn\u2019t have got the result that I hoped for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in the long run, I\u2019m
