Idris Elba<\/a> has revealed that he\u2019s never watched \u201cThe Wire\u201d and he never will.<\/p>\n

The hunky actor and sought-after DJ confessed that he hasn\u2019t seen a single episode of the HBO hit that made him a household name, in which he played debonair yet dastardly drug dealer Stringer Bell.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m really honest, I didn\u2019t watch \u2018The Wire,\u2019\u201d he shared on this week\u2019s episode of the \u201cGood Hang with Amy Poehler\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cI didn\u2019t watch it. And I feel bad. It\u2019s not that I\u2019m not a fan of it \u2014 I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The London native made a career breakout on the David Simon-created drama<\/a>, hailed as one of the best shows in television history<\/a>. He appeared in the first three seasons of the series, which also propelled the careers of Michael K. Williams<\/a>, Andre Royo<\/a>, Dominic West, Sonja Sohn, Tristan \u201cMack\u201d Wilds<\/a>, Wood Harris and Tony Award winner Wendell Pierce<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite understanding now \u201cthe importance of the show,\u201d Elba admits that he\u2019s never \u201cparticipate[d] in its celebration as a viewer, as a fan\u201d so he feels\u00a0\u201ca little bit outside of the club.\u201d<\/p>\n

And while he does \u201cfeel proud\u201d of his time on \u201cThe Wire,\u201d the Golden Globe<\/a> and SAG Award winner<\/a> has no desire to ever watch his work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt [would be] weird for me to go back and watch it,\u201d Elba told Poehler. \u201cI don\u2019t like being overly conscious about what my performance is like, because it makes me conscious about doing it. I like being in it rather than watching it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Elba acknowledges the lasting effect the show has had and continues to have on viewers, even 20 years later.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least once a day, someone says, \u2018Bro, Stringer Bell, The Wire,\u2019 \u2026 It really does, it surprises me how much impact that show had,\u201d he said. \u201cIn a good way, it surprises me continuously that, you know, multi-generationally, it\u2019s still being talked [about by] people that weren\u2019t even born then.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Idris Elba has revealed that he\u2019s never watched \u201cThe Wire\u201d and he never will.
