Crash marks eighth traffic death involving a bicyclist this year, police say<\/p>\n

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. <\/strong> \u2013 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office said a bicyclist died Monday night after being hit by an SUV on Jacksonville\u2019s Southside. <\/p>\n

According to police, the cyclist, a man in his late 20s, was riding his bike near the entrance of Cape House apartments by Hodges Boulevard, when a dark-colored SUV hit him before fleeing the scene. <\/p>\n

Medical crews with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue said the cyclist died at the scene. <\/p>\n

The crash marks the 138th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the eighth involving a bicyclist. <\/p>\n

The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office is asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run vehicle to call 630-05000, email them at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org, or contact CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS where callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.<\/p>\n
