{"id":32045,"date":"2025-07-02T07:49:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/32045\/"},"modified":"2025-07-02T07:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:49:08","slug":"foo-fighters-mark-30th-anniversary-of-bands-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/32045\/","title":{"rendered":"Foo Fighters mark 30th anniversary of band&#8217;s debut"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2023-10-02\/foo-fighters-dave-grohl-ohana-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Foo Fighters<\/a> are celebrating the anniversary of an old album with the release of a new song.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 30 years to the day after Dave Grohl\u2019s stadium-filling rock band dropped its self-titled debut on July 4, 1995, the group on Wednesday revealed \u201cToday\u2019s Song,\u201d its first piece of original material since 2023\u2019s \u201cBut Here We Are\u201d LP, which itself followed the death of Foo Fighters drummer <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2022-03-25\/taylor-hawkins-foo-fighters-drummer-dies-at-50\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Hawkins<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI woke today screaming for change \/ I knew that I must,\u201d Grohl sings over a subdued organ part, \u201cSo here lies the shadow \/ Ashes to ashes, dust into dust.\u201d Later, the frontman sings about \u201cwaiting for someone to repair you\u201d as the song explodes with the band\u2019s signature guitar theatrics and bludgeoning drums.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Grohl, 56, said, \u201cOver the years, we\u2019ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can\u2019t go it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Referring to former members of the band, he added, \u201cIt should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.\u201d (Freese, who took over as drummer following Hawkins\u2019 death, was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-05-16\/foo-fighters-parts-ways-with-drummer-josh-freese\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fired from the band<\/a> in May for reasons he\u2019s said remain unknown to him.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd&#8230; Taylor,\u201d Grohl continued. \u201cYour name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Foo Fighters declined to specify who played drums on \u201cToday\u2019s Song,\u201d though the playing recalls Grohl\u2019s work on the band\u2019s debut, which he recorded as a one-man band, and as the drummer of <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2021-09-23\/nirvana-nevermind-30th-anniversary-grunge-hair-metal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nirvana<\/a>. Earlier this week, Foo Fighters released a cover of Minor Threat\u2019s early-\u201980s hardcore classic \u201c<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c9t7ds06_iQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">I Don\u2019t Wanna Hear It<\/a>,\u201d which the band said combined music recorded in 1995 with vocals recorded in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s Song\u201d comes less than a year after Grohl \u2014 who has three daughters with his wife, Jordyn Blum \u2014 wrote in an Instagram post that he\u2019d <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-09-10\/dave-grohl-welcomes-baby-girl-affair-out-of-marriage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fathered a daughter<\/a> with a woman outside of his marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.\u201d Grohl\u2019s oldest daughter, 19-year-old Violet, performed Nirvana\u2019s \u201cAll Apologies\u201d with Nirvana\u2019s surviving members at <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-01-30\/fireaid-benefit-concert-live-updates-kia-forum-intuit-dome\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January\u2019s FireAid concert<\/a>; his second-oldest daughter, Harper, designed the single artwork for \u201cToday\u2019s Song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foo Fighters are scheduled to play a series of concerts in Asia in October before headlining Mexico City\u2019s Corona Capital festival in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Foo Fighters are celebrating the anniversary of an old album with the release of a new song.
