Brittany Higgins has abandoned her appeal of a WA Supreme Court finding that she defamed her former boss and Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds in a series of social media posts.<\/p>\n
In August, Justice Paul Tottle had ordered Ms Higgins pay $315,000 in damages and more than $26,000 in interest after she and her husband, David Sharaz, were found to have defamed the former senator in the social media posts.<\/p>\n
His ruling followed a trial in Perth last year in which Ms Reynolds accused her former staffer of conducting an orchestrated campaign to end her political career.<\/p>\n

Last month, Justice Tottle also ordered that Ms Higgins pay 80 per cent of Ms Reynolds’ legal costs.<\/a><\/p>\n Ms Reynolds’ lawyer told the ABC the cost order would exceed $1 million.<\/p>\n In September, Ms Higgins filed a last-minute appeal of the defamation finding against her and the order to pay part of Ms Reynolds’ costs.<\/p>\n But the former staffer on Monday lodged her notice to discontinue the appeal with the WA Supreme Court.<\/p>\n Bankruptcy proceedings ongoing<\/p>\n It comes one week after Ms Reynolds launched bankruptcy proceedings in the Federal Court against Ms Higgins.<\/p>\n Former WA senator Linda Reynolds wins defamation battle <\/a><\/p>\n Former West Australian senator Linda Reynolds wins her high-profile defamation case against her ex-staffer Brittany Higgins, whom she had accused of conducting an orchestrated campaign to end her political career.<\/p>\n
