{"id":32155,"date":"2025-07-02T08:48:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T08:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/32155\/"},"modified":"2025-07-02T08:48:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T08:48:16","slug":"arlington-may-require-restaurants-to-display-health-inspection-grades-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/32155\/","title":{"rendered":"Arlington may require restaurants to display health inspection grades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Arlington City Council showed support for a change to the health ordinance that would require restaurants to prominently display their health inspection certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Jim Ross said at the council\u2019s work session June 24 he supported the ordinance change because it could encourage restaurants to keep their places clean.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this sort of holds everybody\u2019s feet to the fire, forces people to display it prominently in their restaurant,\u201d Ross said. \u201cIf I go in there and I see a C or a D, I\u2019m going to be like, what\u2019s going on here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council member Bowie Hogg also said he thought it was a good idea and had seen a similar practice in New York City but not anywhere locally.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Two new studies found there are fewer foodborne illness outbreaks when health departments require restaurants to display their health inspection results, especially with letter grades, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/restaurant-food-safety\/php\/practices\/outbreak-rates.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those communities where it\u2019s required report fewer cases of salmonella, poor inspection scores and illness outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>City Manager Trey Yelverton said Texas does not require restaurants to display their inspection certificates, but cities may require them to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the city requires restaurants to post their most recent health inspection or a sign letting people know how to view it upon request, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtontx.gov\/News-Articles\/2025\/April\/Health-Inspections-Does-Your-Favorite-Arlington-Eatery-Make-the-Grade?fbclid=IwY2xjawLKXylleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFUUlZXdGN4UG82ajBDNVgyAR72iQ7gpx-H23BjR1Dp24yvngE8h9_hETbBEm8L_GCBG7FAwUqaNarGrJCSbQ_aem_75at9-EPXRJeZ-ZMvynunw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">city\u2019s website<\/a>. But the new ordinance change would require them to prominently display the sanitation grade certificate the city started providing to restaurants in November 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The city currently provides every restaurant\u2019s inspection scores\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/opendata.arlingtontx.gov\/datasets\/arlingtontx::food-establishments\/explore?location=32.701841%2C-97.136700%2C11.21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>.
