Animal rights organisation PETA is calling for Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant<\/a> to temporarily change his name.<\/p>\n In November, PETA is set to mark Plant Wool Month, and to highlight the campaign, they are urging Plant to briefly change his name to Robert Plant Wool.<\/p>\n PETA\u2019s Vice President of Programmes, Elisa Allen, said of the campaign: \u201cPlant Wool Month celebrates animal-free and plastic-free yarns that promote sustainable fashion while lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the animals with whom we share this precious planet.\u201d<\/p>\n Allen continued, \u201cPETA is asking Robert Plant to sing the praises of plant wool with a temporary name change that reminds everyone that nothing compares to soft, natural, and eco-friendly plant wool.\u201d<\/p>\n In a letter sent to Plant, seen by Far Out, PETA<\/a> said of the reasons why he should participate in the initiative to promote plant wool: \u201cThis temporary tweak to your famous moniker would help highlight the impressive array of cruelty-free, sustainable plant wools and the innovative designers using them. It would also let those stocking their winter wardrobes know that there are dozens of 100% animal- and plastic-free fibres to keep them cosy, without harming a hair on a sheep\u2019s head.\u201d <\/p>\n The letter concluded by stating, \u201cAs you\u2019ve wisely said, the past is a stepping stone, not a millstone. The future of wool is plants, and we hope you\u2019ll join us to celebrate this kind, green evolution of functional fashion. Thank you for your consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n PETA also highlighted that sheep produce large amounts of methane, which is a planet-warming greenhouse gas unlike plant wool. They say that Plant Wool Month aims to promote \u201chard-working crop farmers, innovative textile makers, and pioneering designers who grow, spin, and work with these beautiful yarns to create knitwear, suits, and more, thereby\u00a0weaving\u00a0a kinder future for the planet and its animals.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Plant recently released the album Saving Grace<\/a>, which he will take across the United Kingdom in December for ten shows. <\/p>\n
