{"id":321896,"date":"2025-10-21T19:16:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T19:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/321896\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T19:16:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T19:16:14","slug":"jets-woody-johnson-rips-justin-fields-backs-aaron-glenn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/321896\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets&#8217; Woody Johnson rips Justin Fields, backs Aaron Glenn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Woody Johnson\u2019s faith in head coach Aaron Glenn isn\u2019t shaken, but the same can\u2019t be said for his view of embattled quarterback Justin Fields.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets are 0-7 for the third time in franchise history and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/19\/sports\/justin-fields-benched-for-tyrod-taylor-as-jets-try-to-spark-offense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fields was benched at halftime<\/a> of last week\u2019s 13-6 loss to the Panthers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/20\/sports\/aaron-glenn-tight-lipped-on-jets-justin-field-tyrod-taylor-call\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glenn hasn\u2019t decided yet<\/a> if he will go back to Fields \u2014 who is signed to a two-year $40 million contract \u2014or hand the reins to Tyrod Taylor against the Bengals on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Justin Fields experiment hasn\u2019t worked out. Charles Wenzelberg\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like (Glenn) is turning around part of it,\u201d Johnson said Tuesday at the league\u2019s fall owners meeting in Midtown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we\u2019ve got. He has the ability, but something is not jiving. If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to see similar results across the league. You have to play consistently at that position and that\u2019s what we\u2019re going to try to do for the remainder of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pointing to the \u201cpretty good\u201d defense and special teams, Johnson said he has \u201cmore hope\u201d for a turnaround than the skeptics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t win with hope,\u201d Johnson said, \u201cbut it helps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Glenn has the owner\u2019s backing. Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Johnson said he will stay out of the coaching staff\u2019s quarterback decision and expressed confidence that Glenn will \u201cmake the right decision with what we\u2019ve got.\u201d It\u2019s hard to envision Glenn not giving an edge to the journeyman Taylor after Johnson\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we could just complete a pass, it would look good,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cYou have to convince them that you can do something, otherwise it\u2019s hard to have a game that you can win. \u2026 You can\u2019t run the ball if you can\u2019t pass the ball. That\u2019s Football 101.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Jets rank No. 27 in points per game (18.4) but the offense has produced just one touchdown in the first three quarters of the last six games, including zero in the first half. If I were a player, I would respond to him because he\u2019s the real deal. There\u2019s no B.S. There\u2019s no second agendas. What you are hearing is the truth. A lot of times players don\u2019t get the truth. They get a lot of gobbledygook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, are they responding behind the scenes?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d Johnson said, \u201cI think they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson hugs Glenn every day \u2014 a tangible vote of confidence \u2014 and tells him to \u201ckeep the faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Tyrod Taylor took over for Justin Fields in Week 7. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fans are the best thing we have,\u201d Johnson said, \u201cbecause they are true green. They have the faith in the team. \u2026 It happens in sports \u2013 when you get this allegiance to a team, it sticks with you. It sticks with me, and it sticks with them. I\u2019m thankful we have fans like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the Nov. 4 trade deadline approaching, another one of Johnson\u2019s first-year hires, general manager Darren Mougey, is in the spotlight. Will he try to add a piece \u2014 particularly to the barren cupboard at receiver \u2014 to jumpstart the offense?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we are looking at every option at all times,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cAlways scouring what\u2019s going on in football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With three of their core four 2022 draft picks under contract for next season \u2014 Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson \u2014 Breece Hall\u2019s future with the Jets is in question. He is the subject of trade speculation.<\/p>\n<p>Hall is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 87.4 yards from scrimmage per game but hasn\u2019t scored a touchdown. He is a free agent after the season, though the Jets have the franchise tag available after inking Wilson and Gardner to four-year extensions and exercising Johnson\u2019s fifth-year option.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to speculate on Breece,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s very important we signed the other two guys. They are great talents.
