The annual meteor spectacle is a result of the famed Halley\u2019s comet, which is the only \u201cshort-period\u201d comet that is visible to the naked eye from Earth and the only naked-eye comet <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/arcnav.psi.edu\/urn:nasa:pds:context:target:comet.1p_halley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:that may appear twice;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">that may appear twice<\/a> in a lifetime. The \u201coutbound\u201d stream of this debris trail produces the Eta Aquariids every spring, according to <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amsmeteors.org\/2025\/10\/viewing-the-orionid-meteor-shower-in-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the American Meteor Society;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the American Meteor Society<\/a>. The Orionid meteor shower, the American Meteor Society adds, is generally of medium strength.
