Marketa Vondrousova\u2019s 2025 campaign reached its conclusion at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After Vondrosuova<\/a> lost to her countrywoman Karolina Muchova in her first-round match at the Ningbo Open, the pair met once more in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Suffering a second defeat in two weeks, Vondrousova retired down<\/a> 2-6, 0-1, as she continues to struggle with injury.<\/p>\n

Another Czech tennis icon, Karolina Pliskova<\/a>, commented on Vondrousova\u2019s defeat to Muchova in Tokyo on the \u2018Rakety\u2019 podcast [translated from Czech].<\/p>\n

Frustrated by the former world number one\u2019s comments, Vondrousova fired back on social media.<\/p>\n

Vondrousova responded to Pliskova\u2019s criticism on her Instagram<\/a> story [translated from Czech].<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who has ever played with an injury knows that sometimes you just can\u2019t go on,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand why someone who should understand it the most is questioning this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vondrousova has endured a difficult 2025 campaign due to injuries that have seen her miss several tournaments.<\/p>\n

Returning to the tour in Adelaide, six months after her last match, Vondrousova soon found herself back on the injury list, missing the majority of the clay-court season with a shoulder problem.<\/p>\n

After losing early at Roland Garros, Vondrousova won the Berlin Open<\/a> on grass and looked well-positioned to challenge for a second Wimbledon title, but came unstuck in round two against British favorite Emma Raducanu.<\/p>\n

Then, at the US Open, Vondrousova reached the quarterfinals but was forced to withdraw<\/a> ahead of her match with Aryna Sabalenka due to a knee injury.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t return in time for either WTA 1000 event in China, missing both the China Open<\/a> and Wuhan Open.<\/p>\n
