Unfortunately, their two best players are on it.

Jayson Tatum, who is recovering from a right Achilles injury, has been ruled out. He is not expected to return until February at the earliest.

Jaylen Brown, who’s dealing with a left hamstring strain, is listed as questionable, putting his status in doubt for Wednesday’s opener.

Injury Report for tomorrow vs. PHI:

Jaylen Brown (left hamstring strain) – QUESTIONABLE
Jayson Tatum (right achilles repair) – OUT

— Boston Celtics (@celtics) October 21, 2025

Brown suffered the injury during Boston’s preseason finale against the Toronto Raptors last Wednesday. He’s been practicing this week and says he’s feeling good, but he’s taking things one day at a time. There are still 81 more games after Wednesday, so there’s no need for him to rush back if he’s still not ready to go.

Story continues below advertisement

Based on his recent updates and encouraging practice on Tuesday, Brown seems more likely than not to suit up. The team will see how he feels on Wednesday before making a final decision, but he appears to be trending towards playing.

With Tatum already out for the foreseeable future, the Celtics could use Brown and will be extra shorthanded if he sits out. If he’s sidelined, it will be up to Derrick White to lead the offense.

Story continues below advertisement

Brown played through a partial meniscus tear last season, so his toughness isn’t in question. He knows the team is counting on him and will likely do everything he can to take the court Wednesday night.

After a whirlwind summer and preseason, the Boston Celtics finally kick off their 2025-26 season on Wednesday night…

[40
14562,37970,1260,62,67,132,68
0":"post-322274","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nba","8":"tag-jaylen-brown","9":"tag-jayson-tatum","10":"tag-nba","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
