At my tenant’s request, I ordered the least expensive bundle of trash bins. When I received my property tax bill for that property, I was charged for the largest size trash bins, $120 more than stated on the city’s website for what I ordered. When I questioned the department in charge of this matter, I was told I would be billed for the largest bin bundle for this tax year and would receive a credit on next year’s property tax bill. I was told this was in the pamphlet the city sent me. It was but was buried on the back page. Shame on the city for overcharging on this year’s tax bill to receive significant funds now and for failing to clearly advise homeowners from the start about this scam to receive more upfront money.

— Joseph Fox, La Mesa

Re “Rollout of city trash service pressing forward” (Oct. 19): I own a house in the city.
