JACKSONVILLE, Fla. <\/strong> \u2013 There is a makeover happening in the Brooklyn neighborhood in an effort to revamp Jacksonville. <\/p>\n

One of the many projects that is already starting to flourish is \u201cOne Riverside.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first phase of\u00a0One\u00a0Riverside\u00a0is taking shape at the site of the former Times Union Building. (WJXT)<\/p>\n

For more than three years, News4JAX has been reporting on what is on the horizon for a part of the Riverside area, specifically the Brooklyn neighborhood. <\/p>\n

The new building includes 271 luxury apartments overlooking the St. Johns River. <\/p>\n

Terha Marie moved into the new complex about three months ago and is among the first group of tenants. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have traveled for two years, and we were looking for amenities,\u201d Marie said. \u201cThis is one of the nicest places we have ever been to.\u201d<\/p>\n

She just moved to Jacksonville with her fianc\u00e9 after living in Arizona and Colorado.<\/p>\n

Marie is trading in the pine trees for palm trees and said the move makes her optimistic based on her experience so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is new,\u201d she said. \u201cNot just the buildings, but the people. It almost is like everyone here has a fresh, clean start. They just wanna go at life in a new way.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the apartments, a Whole Foods Market, Norikawa Japanese Restaurant, Solidcore Fitness Studio and 600-car parking garage are claiming spots at the property.<\/p>\n

Phase 2 is going to include 125 multifamily units and additional space for retail. <\/p>\n
