ESPN execs have said that they \u201chave enough forums where they can extend the postgame deep into the night.\u201d Similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/02\/former-turner-boss-says-mcafee-show-could-be-model-for-inside-the-nba-on-espn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/02\/former-turner-boss-says-mcafee-show-could-be-model-for-inside-the-nba-on-espn\/\">Pat McAfee\u2019s weekday show<\/a>, \u201cInside The NBA\u201d is licensed to the network. Deitsch: \u201cI have a suspicion\/theory\/premonition that the Inside crew is going to push the envelope early to make it very clear they have autonomy within the larger ESPN ecosystem.\u201d THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Andrew Marchand wrote the show is \u201cmore variety show than NBA program.\u201d The show\u2019s host Ernie Johnson will \u201crein it in,\u201d and it is \u201cwhy he\u2019s one of the best sports hosts ever.\u201d Marchand noted Stephen A. Smith has \u201csmartly welcomed\u201d in Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O\u2019Neal and Johnson to ESPN. Marchand: \u201cThe mistake would be trying to incorporate Smith or anyone else into the show. But think about how high Stephen A.\u2019s star has risen &#8230; If Stephen A. doesn\u2019t feel like he has enough or if ESPN tries to foist Stephen A. on Inside, that would be a mistake.\u201d Deitsch &amp; Marchand were asked, \u201cWhat would be your advice for ESPN executives to maximize being the home of NBA fans\u2019 most respected and beloved TV show?\u201d Deitsch: \u201cSimple.
