He traveled all the way from the sewers of Maine while promoting the upcoming release of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/tag\/television\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HBO series<\/a> \u201cWelcome to Derry\u201d \u2013 a prequel to Stephen King\u2019s novel \u201cIt\u201d and the franchise\u2019s two recent movies.<\/p>\n<p>The city that never sleeps might have an even more difficult time doing so, knowing an orange-haired clown in a silver silk suit is roaming the streets. On Wednesday, he was spotted with bundles of red balloons at locations like Central Park, Bryant Park, Washington Square Park and Jane\u2019s Carousel in Dumbo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love New York!\u201d Pennywise said. \u201cNew Yorkers are great\u2026for breakfast and dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/New-York-Red-Balloon-Takeover-7.jpg\" width=\"100%\"\/>Pennywise in New York. (Courtesy of HBO)<\/p>\n<p>The series, which premieres Sunday on HBO, explores the origins of Pennywise, a shapeshifting killer clown who terrorizes the city of Derry.<\/p>\n<p>He terrorized plenty of other cities across the globe Wednesday as part of HBO&#8217;s \u201cRed Balloon Takeover\u201d promotion \u2013 making appearances in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Paris, Japan, Sydney, Hong Kong, Dubai and others.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Paris-Red-Balloon-Takeover-1.png\" width=\"100%\"\/>Pennywise in Paris. (Courtesy of HBO)<\/p>\n<p>It was the second time this month Derry was represented in Manhattan. <\/p>\n<p>At New York Comic Con, a \u201cWelcome to Derry\u201d immersive activation welcomed fans to face their fears inside a child&#8217;s 1960s-era bedroom, unsettled by the looming threat of Pennywise. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/WTD_S1__NYCC_10112025_ZD_00001022.jpg\" width=\"100%\"\/>The &#8220;Welcome to Derry&#8221; immersive activation at New York Comic Con. (Courtesy of HBO)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really leaned into the idea of what makes \u2018It\u2019 so iconic in culture,\u201d said Alex Diamond, vice president of global originals marketing for HBO Max. \u201cAnd, of course, with that it is Pennywise, the red balloon and fear. So, once we really focused on those entities, it was helpful for us to narrow down and then ultimately bring the experience to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then bring Pennywise himself to New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really important for us to be on the ground,\u201d Diamond said, \u201cto gives those deep divers, those fans that really want to touch and feel and experience the world, that type of connection to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/New-York-Red-Balloon-Takeover-4.jpg\" width=\"100%\"\/>A red balloon at a New York City sewer. Many approached him for a selfie or balloon, others ran down the street screaming, and in true New York fashion, some walked right by as if he wasn&#8217;t even there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve been great!\u201d Pennywise said. \u201cI love \u2018em.
