Texas<\/strong> \u2013 Millions of Texans who rely on SNAP benefits<\/a> are facing uncertainty as the government shutdown puts these essential programs at risk. <\/p>\n

From Houston to the Greater Houston Area, hundreds of thousands could go without food assistance if the shutdown continues into November.<\/p>\n

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program \u2014 better known as SNAP \u2014 provides monthly benefits to help families afford groceries. If the government shutdown<\/a> continues, benefits could stop for millions nationwide, including hundreds of thousands right here locally.<\/p>\n

Harris County SNAP Benefits Impact<\/b><\/p>\n

In Harris County, 642,890 people may not receive their SNAP benefits. That\u2019s 300,486 families who receive $395 monthly in SNAP benefits who could go hungry if the shutdown continues, with children ages 5\u201317 being the most affected.<\/p>\n
