JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – If you\u2019ve filled up your tank lately, you\u2019ve probably noticed that gas prices are falling. According to GasBuddy, North Carolina gas is now the cheapest it\u2019s been in October since 2020.<\/p>\n
This week alone, prices have dropped by 11.1 cents per gallon, bringing the state average down to $2.72 a gallon.<\/p>\n
Drivers in Jacksonville say they\u2019re happy to see the numbers keep going down and hope it stays that way.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, it\u2019s better than it was before, but it could be a little lower. I know how the economy and everything are,\u201d said Danielle Minervini, a Holly Ridge resident. \u201cI wish it were lower than it was, but right now I think it\u2019s OK. If it ever goes up to four, then we\u2019re gonna have some issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
Across the country, prices have fallen 4.1 cents per gallon over the last week, with the national average sitting at $2.98.<\/p>\n
AAA says some of the cheapest gas in Eastern Carolina can be found in Pitt County, where the average is about $2.54 a gallon.<\/p>\n
Charles Hunter, a Jacksonville resident, says he doesn\u2019t understand why prices change so much but knows it hits families hard. \u201cEveryone needs a vehicle to go to work, to do whatever they need. Gas is a necessity, so you have to make cuts somewhere. You have to do away with something in order to have that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Diesel prices have also gone down, dropping 3.7 cents since last week to an average of $3.59 a gallon.<\/p>\n
