\u2018No Kings\u2019 protests: USA TODAY Network on the ground<\/p>\n
From Tallahassee to Akron, USA TODAY Network was at “No Kings” protests across the country.<\/p>\n
Is President Donald Trump<\/a> the “imitation crab of kings”?<\/p>\n That was Jon Stewart’s<\/a> take on the latest episode of “The Daily Show,” which covered the recent No Kings protests<\/a> against the Trump administration. At the end of his segment, the comedian argued that Trump does have a lot in common with a king, including his “lavish sensibilities” and “entitled mind.”<\/p>\n “Maybe Trump isn’t an all-powerful king, the kind who can do whatever he wants,” Stewart said. “But he’s undeniably king adjacent, king-esque, moving for more. He’s the imitation crab of kings right now, the ‘I can’t believe it’s not king.’<\/p>\n “And the ironic part about Republicans complaining that he is being dubbed a king is that in their minds, he has already surpassed that title anyway and moved on to a much higher calling,” he added before playing a montage of commentators praising Trump as a miracle worker and savior.<\/p>\n Millions of people turned out<\/a> for the nationwide No Kings protests on Oct. 18, a series of rallies built around the idea that Trump is acting like a king as president and that America should not be lead by a monarch. Pedro Pascal and Kerry Washington were among the stars<\/a> who joined civilians at the rallies.<\/p>\n On “The Daily Show,” Stewart mocked Fox News and Republican politicians for their reactions to the protests, joking they made it sound like it would “be like ‘Mad Max’ out there.” In reality, “it wasn’t a ‘hate America rally’ at all,” Stewart said before playing clips of Fox News talking heads describing the protests as a waste of time.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Make up your mind, Fox!” he said, arguing Republicans went from complaining that the protests would be terrifying and unhinged to complaining that they were boring and uneventful.<\/p>\n Stewart also compared the No Kings protests to the Tea Party movement and warned Republicans not to dismiss the “tremendous amount of political potential energy” on display at the gatherings.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Stewart’s former “Daily Show” colleague Stephen Colbert<\/a> called the No Kings protests a “beautiful sight to see” on “The Late Show.” He also slammed Trump for posting an apparently AI-generated video depicting<\/a> himself wearing a crown and dropping what appears to be excrement on protesters while flying a fighter jet.<\/p>\n “This video was vile and violent and only proves the point of the No Kings march even more,” Colbert said. “What decent democratic leader would ever post a video of themselves (pooping) on peaceful protesters?
