The Galaxy XR is the first mixed-realty headset to run on Google\u2019s Android XR operating system, and its $1,800 retail price is roughly half the cost of its direct competitor, Apple Vision Pro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">Baseball continues to prioritize availability of its products on all new platforms, and unlike Apple\u2019s more closed hardware ecosystem, Android XR will be available for more devices and developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">\u201cWe continually see the response, whenever we touch innovation, from our fans,\u201d MLB SVP\/Gaming &amp; VR Jamie Leece said. \u201cNow, we know that it doesn\u2019t get a 100% adoption day one, but &#8230; the whole idea of MLB Advanced Media was to be where your fans are, wherever they are, however they want to interact with us and make sure that you\u2019ve got an offering for them to get that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">Most of the same immersive features that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/30\/apple-vision-pro-mlb-mls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/30\/apple-vision-pro-mlb-mls\/\">MLB developed for Apple Vision Pro<\/a> area remain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/mlb-app-available-now-for-android-xr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/mlb-app-available-now-for-android-xr\">with some upgrades<\/a>: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new Multiview feature allows fans to watch up to five MLB games concurrently, with one primary large screen window and four smaller viewing spaces.<\/li>\n<li>A select number of highlights are captured in Spatial Video, converting flat video into more of a 3D appearance in which the viewer has a sense of presence in the ballpark. At times, some footage &#8212; such as a 2024 World Series highlight package &#8212; is captured with specialty hardware to create 180-degree video in a more classic VR experience.<\/li>\n<li>Immersive Gameday 3D visualizes all the players on a rendered field below the video screen to follow movement from fielders and runners outside the broadcast camera\u2019s view; whereas the Apple Vision Pro recreated each athlete as a 2D puck, in Android XR, the players all appear as 3D avatars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">World Series broadcaster Fox Sports also has a new Android XR app available at launch.
