Local officials are asking downtown visitors to plan ahead for their transportation and parking needs as the city braces for weekend events that will draw more than 100,000 people to its central core. <\/p>\n

The annual Muertos Fest celebration will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Hemisfair, and former Beatle Paul McCartney will perform at the Alamodome on Saturday night.\u00a0The concert alone is expected draw 45,000 fans. <\/p>\n

Beyond that, the River Walk will host its annual Day of the Dead River Parade on Friday, two large gatherings are booked for the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and other concerts and events are scheduled at downtown venues. <\/p>\n

As a result, city officials are recommending that those heading downtown take advantage of VIA\u2019s Park and Ride service, take rideshare vehicles or make use of city parking facilities. <\/p>\n

VIA will offer its Park and Ride service for free from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m., picking riders up from VIA Crossroads at 151 Crossroads Blvd.; Brooks Transit center, 3026 Sidney Brooks Drive; and Lots 6 and 7 at the Frost Bank Center, 1 Frost Bank Center Drive.<\/p>\n

Paid parking at city owned garages will be available, with free VIA services from its Primo Route 100 shuttle heading to the Robert Thompson Transit Station adjacent the Alamodome. For information on city is available online<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Digital service Parkwhiz controls more than 25 lots and garages within proximity of the Alamodome. Parking reservations are available through Ticketmaster or through the Know Before You Go section of the Alamodome website<\/a>. Prices vary depending on venue proximity, ranging from a lot of $12 and a high of $100.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Alamodome\u2019s lots A, B and C will be open at 2 p.m., with lot B available on a first-come, first-served basic for $60. The lots do not accept cash. Alamodome suite holders will park in lot C, while lot A is reserved for ADA dropoffs and parking.<\/p>\n

Rideshare will be available from the Alamodome\u2019s Lot D, located on the West side of I-37 and U.S. Highway 281, in between the Tower of Americas and the Institute of Texan Cultures.<\/p>\n

The city expects I-37 and U.S. 281 to be the most congested roadways during the weekend. Drivers can get updates on lane closures by referring to the city\u2019s Public Works Department\u2019s closure map<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
