season are officially underway as stars look to fine-tune their games ahead of the Paris Masters. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the Swiss Indoors in Basel, home hope and three-time major champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/multiple-grand-slam-champion-wins-his-first-atp-tour-match-since-july-at-the-swiss-indoors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stan Wawrinka clinched his first hard-court victory of the season<\/a>, while second seed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Shelton<\/a> also got himself back in the win column. <\/p>\n<p>Shanghai Masters champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/taylor-fritz-shares-what-was-frustrating-during-his-first-career-meeting-with-valentin-vacherot\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Valentin Vacherot appeared<\/a> for the first time since his incredible triumph in China, but was narrowly beaten by world number four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Fritz<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, at the Vienna Open, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> made his return to tour-level action with a dominant win over Daniel in Almaty, coming through a hard-fought match with Nuno Borges. <\/p>\n<p>Among the packed lineup in Vienna, one former Wimbledon finalist, like Medvedev, has put an end to a drought on the ATP Tour. <\/p>\n<p>Matteo Berrettini ends six-month wait for consecutive wins<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 runner-up at the All England Club, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/Matteo-Berrettini\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matteo Berrettini<\/a>, has finally ended his six-month wait for consecutive wins at the Vienna Open.<\/p>\n<p>Berrettini last won two matches in a row at the Monte-Carlo Masters in April, where he reached the round of 16 after beating both Mariano Navone and Alexander Zverev. <\/p>\n<p>Since then, however, the Italian has struggled for consistency. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links multi\">\n<li>Madrid Open \u2013 1 win<\/li>\n<li>Italian Open \u2013 1 win<\/li>\n<li>Wimbledon \u2013 0 wins<\/li>\n<li>Hangzhou Open \u2013 0 wins<\/li>\n<li>Japan Open \u2013 1 win<\/li>\n<li>Shanghai Masters \u2013 0 wins<\/li>\n<li>Stockholm Open \u2013 1 win<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>His dry spell has been snapped in Austria, with Berrettini emerging victorious in his opening match against Alexei Popyrin before following it up with a win against Cam Norrie to book his spot in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>His clash with Norrie went three sets and lasted three hours and 15 minutes, the longest bout of the tournament so far. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\" with a tiebreak victory of his own, winning the set-two shootout 11-9 to force a decider.<\/p>\n<p>In the third set, Berrettini secured the all-important break of serve to win 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 and set up a last-eight meeting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alex-de-minaur\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex de Minaur<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Matteo Berrettini\u2019s head-to-head record with Alex de Minaur <\/p>\n<p>At tour-level events, Berrettini has met his quarterfinal opponent, de Minaur, four times, and leads their head-to-head 3-1. <\/p>\n<p>They first played each other in the semifinal of Queen\u2019s in 2021, where Berrettini won before going on to clinch the grass-court title.<\/p>\n<p>De Minaur opened his account in the rivalry at the ATP Cup in 2022, besting his Queen\u2019s conqueror in straight sets in front of a home crowd in Sydney, <\/p>\n<p>The Australians lost their next two ties, however, falling to Berrettini at Wimbledon in 2023
